Im absolutely sh*tting meslef. Im goin to the recruitment office next week- even though i dont want to apply for about 5 months- that way i got ages to train hard. But im thinking what if i think im ready and im not- i find at the mo- i can do about 10x more sit ups than press ups. I really need to sort me arms out:S. I know i got a long time-but its the thought of psyching meself up- and making a slight mistake on the day. Thats my worst nightmare!
If you train hard over the next 5 months then tere should be no reason why you shoudn't pass. If you are worried about not preforming on the day, then don't be because if you want it enough then you're going to preform. Also the corporals make you preform.
freestyler i was in the same boat as you i failed my first prmc and was extreemely nervous bout my second one but i just dropped college and trained full time for about 6 months and iv just passed prmc as long as you can do what they tell you to you should be fine!
on another note hammerc which welsh lad r u i was on prmc 20-23 jan i was the lad from liverpool area
ex nod was diagnosed with chronic compartment syndrome rejoining eventually.
currently in australia as im traveling the world before i rejoin the marines.
Yeah id love nothing more than to drop work and train everyday- unfortunately i need rent and gym visits etc - so im gonna have to work out a coompromise. Thanks for the help you 2!
Freestyler, I have the same problem as you. I can do the running no probs (well, that's a lie, a year of beer and fags with no exercise took it's toll, but it comes back very quickly for me, down to sub-20 min 3-milers now), but my upper body has always been weak. I work shifts, but get in three gym sessions a week, and I've come on a lot in just a month of hard graft. Press ups, just max out on them out whenever you have a spare minute, as many times a day as you like. I could only manage about 15 Marine style at the start of the month, I've doubled that now, and managing to add around 5 a week. Pull-ups the same, though they seem to be improving very very slowly...that's the one thing I'm afraid of failing on. If you've got 5 months, you'll be fine so long as you put the work in.
JMC, you don't realise quite how crap I am at these...I mean, I can do two at a push. I do have a chin up bar at home, part of the problem is that I'm rarely there to use it. The gym has a very good machine where you stand on a bar that moves, that you can set the amount of weight pushing up on you, then you grab the bar above and do the pull ups as normal. I do 3 sets of 8 every time I'm there, with 20kg taken off my weight...I'm improving (started with 35kg a month ago), it just seems to take a bloody long time!!
When I first started doing them I could just about manage one... but instead of making it easier on some gym machine I just kept doing them.
There are also negative reps to give a try. These are where you help yourself up to the 'bend' part of the pullup (ie where the bar is touching your chest) then lower yourself down very slowly to the starting position.
Cheers Rob, I'll try that. Must admit, this machine is the best thing I've found for them, just taking off a little weight means I can push (pull??) a few reps, and the improvements are noticable...I don't intend going to my PRMC to fail, so I am putting everything I can into strengthing my back...so long as I can crack this, I can push myself hard enough to pass everything else. It'd just be really gutting to know I'd failed on the first morning and still have another day and a half to go.
So Rob, you're saying that the bar is coming up to your chest, is this how far up in a pull-up one is supposed to go? I've been doing them till my chin is level with the bar. Is this the wrong way of doing them? If, so could someone please enlighten me?
