What you have been told???

Post by J.M.C »

Concerning Fitness and preparing for the PRMC.What have you guys been told, like running ,how far? how often? etc

I ask this because a lot of the people who failed had been been given really shit advice. So bad,you have to wonder why their careers adviser sent them down at all??

just for example, one lad in my room got better gym test 1 scores than me(bar bleep test) ,did the beasting and assualt course(3'27) but failed on the 3 miler.....Because he had never run more than 2 miles before! apparantley his careers 'adviser' had told him that aslong as he could run 1 1/2 miles in under 10 mins 45 and aslong as he was running 1-2 miles every other day he would pass PRMC???

Thats f@@king shocking if you ask me,i was told run 6 miles four/five times a week or i would fail! and that on the PJFT i was looking for 9-9.30 NO higher.

So really,passing/failing PRMC has a lot to do with how 'switched on' your careers adviser is....
Passed PRMC 20th - 23rd january

yeah i was told to run 6 miles 3 or 4 times a week also, i guess some advisors underestimate the physical demands needed to pass the PRMC, either that or they had tried and failed and spite anyone going to go down and try :D

i've been told to run 4 miles 3 times a week in under 28mins. At my careers office (Hull) we have to pass a 1 day fitness test before they give us our travel warrants, fail the test and you are withdrawn from PRMC.

i got told the same as you dave....press ups everyday...should be aiming for 3 sets of 40, 6 x 3 pulls and 40 x 3 sit ups at least!

running 1.5 in sub 9, 4miles x 3 per week with short jogs and what not inbetween, not bad advice i feel.

cheers,davo

I'm not going for the marines but my army careers advisor gave me this advice for my RSC:

"You look like fit lad, just start running building up to a 6 miler. You should pass easily, it's not problem!"

Such good advice!

For what it's worth I think that someone who hasn't run more than 2 miles and expects to get into the Corps needs to switch on. When faced with a big disappointment it's easy and perhaps tempting to blame others. I knew hardly anything about the Corps before I joined but knew that I'd have to be fit to even get a sniff of it - come on, you all know what the score is :-? You don't need some matelot to spoon feed you.

I would say 1.5 Mile in 9 mins or under, 3 miles in 20 mins or under and the Max in Gym test 1. If you can do this and dont give up on the rest then you've got a pretty good chance of passing.

I can pretty much cater for the runs and press ups/sit ups- but i have trouble finding a sturdy bar to do the pull ups. Is there anything you guys would recommend instead- or anything that i could pull meself up on????
