Good Starting Point

Post by Adam86 »

Hi people how did you all start out with your workouts etc? Im not a 'fit' person so to speak I've read multiple training programs here and there but I just want a basic one that will get me to a nice general level of fitness then maybe I could start training specifics

Thanks

What kind of fitness are you currently i.e. how many press ups, sit ups, and pull ups can you do, how fast can you run 3 miles.

Also how much do you train already.

Not just random questions, just to see how basic is basic for you so what kind of training would be specific for you.

The PRMC fitness program is a good starting point.

I'm in pretty much the same boat as you, had the fitness, lost it, now have to start from scratch. I've started using "the royal marines, circuit training" it's designed to take a fat civvie to nod standard in 8 weeks. Ofcourse that depend on your exact fitness but it's a good starting point. Other than that just make sure whatever you do includes arm, trunk and leg excerises. Good luck.

Is the routine in that similar to the prmc fitness program on here? It seems a little bit on the slim side for exercises but I assume each exercise is exactly what you will be tested on at PRMC so its ideal for training?

The schedule on this site is a good starting point. The book is good but how did you work the train for 15 secs rest for 10secs because i could never tell when the 15secs were up. The books got a much wider range of exercises with towards the end of the 8 weeks 12 exercises per circuit.

You use a good timer watch. I payed £36 for mine but it was in a sale so it would originaly cost about £99. It is a very good sports watch though, I'm sure you could get a cheaper one somewhere. Mines made by nike, I'll find the full type name later. But it was well worth the money.

Get 'Fighting Fit by Adrian Weale, it's the best fitness book out there.
