Loz the reason that cats hate dogs so much is because dogs are not afraid to go swimming this makes cats think that they will steal their fish, on that note they don't like grizzly bears either or the chap in the john west advert for that matter 8)
My position remains before the mast.
or is it "when the red flag is flying use the after gangway" ;)

Dan,
Have you served on a RFA vessel during your time in the Navy? I am considering joining the RFA and this forum seems to be the only place where i hear first hand experience about the RFA. Cheers! :D

I just want to get a general sense of what life is like aboard a RFA vessel. The accommodation, the atmosphere....does anyone ever get seasick? That kind of thing. :)

I have often heard stories of the life on board RFA vessels :o

One of my mates was a METOC on board and it was kind of the high life compared to "grey funnel line". She had a two person cabin that she shared (compared to 12 person and upwards messes on the navy ships). I don't know if it was a vicious rumour but think I remember her telling me something about the crews bar that they could use as well.

There were also very scary stories of how the "gentlemen" enjoyed dressing up to relax in the evening, and there wasn't a bootie or a sods opera in sight!
There are are two kinds of people:

Those who say to god, "Thy will be done", and those to whom god says, "Alright then, have it your way".

You only become an Able rate when you complete your training. You still have atleast 28 weeks to go. Just like me.

Ok listen in AB or Able Seaman (Able Rate) is not your first step on the ladder.
It's like a pongo finishing training and getting his first stripe now if pusser has changed the system then thats a bad move.
I was by the time i finished my service a CPO ( OPS ) (TS) SM now when we did training Part 1 was Raleigh Part 2 was Dolphin & Part 3 Training was on a boat.
If / when you complete all the training you can apply to become an Acting Able Rate if your CPO thinks you can do the job you will be promoted .
You can apply to get your 1st task book SO / AB you get 12 months to complete that task book.
