Artificer! answers needed please

I am 20 years old and am seriously thinking of applying to become an artificer in the royal navy. I know a fair amount about the job through booklets sent to me by the royal navy but i really really need to know more about the selection process. Particulary the tests that you have to sit? I have 9 GCSEs, seven of those A-C and 3 AS levels. I know that i have above the minimum academic requirements but i know this alone will get me nowhere! If anyone can help me with information on the selection process i would be grateful! The tests and interviews in particular. Thanks in advance.

Basically, the recruit test is easy as pie. With your qualifications you should breeze it. Just run through the practice paper that your AFCO will send you, and then swot up a little on the areas that you didn't get full marks on.
But then Tiffs have to sit a seperate exam that normal recruits don't go through. However, it's almost exacty like a Higher level GCSE Maths paper, run through a few past papers that you can probably pick up at your local high school.
If Maths was your strong subject at school then you should have no problems, however I do advise still preparing for it. just think back to your high school days.

Then, the dreaded interview. Haha, I joke. It is a little nerve-racking, but the interviewer only wants to see if your the right sort of person for the job. Be yourself, but try to learn a little about the navy beforehand. Locations of establishments, types of ship amd aircraft, rates of pays etc etc. Oh, and definately know exactly what your are going to go through if you finally join up, trip down to raleigh, what you'll do at raleigh, and the whole training process of an Artificer, pre-sea/at sea/post sea, promotions, oppurtunitys for qualifications and all that other stuff that is explained in the Tiff brochure that you got given.
Finally, a little mechanical knowledge is useful, know how to wire a plug, and what each wire is for. Also, things like what a carberettor[sp?] is and what it does.
Show that your commited and confident, and that you know that the Navy Artificer is the right job for you.

aye, i found it easy, while your at raleigh its basically bshit and does not resemble the RN as it is today tbh, at raleigh it is to test your abilities , you have todo maths and phys and eng exams while your there, and have todo about 5 one and half mile runs, 2 pressups and situps tests while you do the shuttle run aswell, but overall it was bril

Sadly the air artificer no longer exists, now just mechanic. something about RAF getting involved so cutbacks gonna be made.

This aint true in fact there expanding the amount of air artificers they recruit and are seperating them from the other tifs so u can now apply as an air tif so ur garunteed too get it , i know this cos i was applying as a tif and im one of the first people in the country too apply under these new changes theyve also setup a fast track promotion thing so peopl wiv 5 GCSE or more can reach petty officer quicker, plus the waiting lists quite short

Ai theres no aem or air tiff. Theyve combined so everyone applies as an aet and then the best students get chosen for quicker promotion. I was going through my selection process for aem when it changed.
