i was originally going to go in to basic training on the 19th of january but some one did not want to go on to training any more must be pussy whiped!! any way i got a phone call from my local recruitment office and was told that i can go on the 24th of this month (exelent) but the only question i have now is what happens if you do not meet the standards required? i heard that you would be put in the regular infantry. but i have also heard that you can be 'back trooped' where you just satrt again to get either you soldier skills or fitness up? could someone please fill me in
by the way before anyone says it im not going in with the thourght of failing or anything of the sort i just want to be a little more clued up on what what happens up there cheers

Hi Andy, I was in para reg in the 90's so can only tell you what it was like then. Basically if you are lagging slightly behind to start with, you'll get a chance to improve as the weeks go on. If you still struggle then the pressure will be applied and inevitably you'll be backsquaded. If you simply haven't got what it takes then you could be asked to join another regiment or leave.
At the end of the day what is needed is aggression and a will to win. If you struggle to start with but don't stop trying then you'll be ok.
