From Couch Potato to Commando

Post by Aussie »

Well, Ive finally decided what I want and have decided I want to be an Australian Army commando. I'm already quite motivated and have about 12 months to get fit enough, as the enlistment age for the commando's here is 19 ( as opposed to 17 for the rest of the army).

Now I'm not exactly a full blown couch patato, but I was about three or four months ago. Do you think it's realistic to believe that I could get up to commando standard within a year?

Mate, Commando training may well the toughest thing you will ever try for in your life. To get to the standard for training, realistically is up to YOU, it depends how much training you put in and at the end of the day thats what will get you through the selection. Being mentally and physically prepared.

If you want to enough - YOU WILL
If not - YOU WILL NOT

To ansew your questions - I DO want this and I DO reckon I can do it.

What I meant is that has anyone here know anyone or themselves been in this situation? I know it can be done if you want it enough.

Again if you want it enough and train hard you can easily become fit enough to pass your PRMC.

Aussie,
I can understand your worries, as i have, as many have, faced the dounting, completly dominating ambition of turning yourself from a week hopless civvie into a determind fit, confident civvie who is ready to join the forces, not just as a 'normal' soldier, but to go that extra step and aim for the reward which for me means so much means so much.
There are many like me.
A year and a half ago i was the least fittest person i knew and i'd seen what i had to acheve just to get into training. It really felt like i was looking up to at the top of a huge crazy mountin with me at the bottom, but a year later i was no longer the least fittest but the fittest person i knew out of my friends, and it was the best i ever felt.

It CAN be done mate, you will get there, you have to start realistic, do what you can but always do it 100%, never miss a run or an exercise session, don't make excusses and keep focussing, it takes time and can sometimes feel frustrating and hopless.
I trained from fat to fit, it was one of the hardest things i've ever done (Apart from the bottom field :) ) but it was worth it, because i'm now in training with the RMR, this time next year, hopefully this whole ordeal will be over and worth it and i can look back at the old 'coach potato' i was and smile, whilst i adjust my green berret.

Theres plenty of good tips and advise on here and it has helped me almost to the point where i don't no whether i could have got through some of it without this site. I advise you use it (but use the search function before you ask any bone questions or you won;t be very popular  ).

Good luck mate,

Aye,
