Hi,
Can anybody tell me whether 63 training/selection differs from 21/23.
if so, where can i pick up relevent info for selection/training for 63.
I know 264 differs greatley from 22, with the option to go on and do 22 selection if succesful with 264!

63 and 264 are Royal Signals squadrons that provide the comms infrastructure for UKSF. You'll be a signaller first and foremost, there is opportunity for the odd signaller to work as troop sigs with a sabre sqn but most spend their time in CP's sat on their arse's listening to the radio and drinking tea. 264 do run a selection for entry that comprises of a CFT/aptitude and the hills section of SF selection - although its run as a seperate entity and timings are taken on TA SF allocations.
Joining 264 or 63 will not get you a 'back door' / 'easy-in' to SAS. You will have to put in for selection just like everyone else if you want to join 22 / SBS properly.
Bottom line is - if you fancy being a signaller then go for it as its probably one of the best jobs a signaller can do. If you have no interest in signals but think it'll get you in SF then don't bother as it won't.
There is no selection to join 63 Signals (SAS) (V) [note correct spelling]
You are a signaler in the Royal Signals Reserve. You get to wear a beige beret with some nude chap on it, but have to pass selection like everyone else in 21 or 23 to wear the blue belt and then the para course to wear SAS wings.
Anyone from 63 sigs who has gone to the bother to do all that tends to transfer to 21 or 23.
Was based in same TA centre as 63 sig's when i was with 289 Cdo Bty.
From what i know, they had a four weekend selection process, which is not really that much of a selection process. They had quite a few women, and a few people who looked like they needed the exercicse in the unit.
The selection process seemed to be a lot easier than doing first stages of marine training. We had a few blokes come over to are unit, as they didn't like the constant signals training, and felt like a challenge.
While the unit has the title SAS signals, they don't actually do SAS selection, you have to join 21,23 or go reg to get badged
Chaos, Disorder, Destruction.....My work here is done!

Why can't you accept that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue.
Hi guys - in defence of 63 sigs, whilst the selection weekends are only four in number, they are bloody hard. Yes, the unit accepts girls, and bloody good luck to them, they carry less weight during the tests and may be let off more lightly than the blokes, but they are fit. Also - you may have seen a few pudgy recruits for 63, but they probably won't pass - look at the guys who are actually in, about 70%have para wings and have gone through the hills of brecon to get them. 'Course, at the end of the day, the are simply signallers, but hey - they are good at it and extremely fit to boot, I know someone who was ex marines and found the course very hard going, albeit short.

having done and passed selection for 63 i can say it is not easy. I am now in the regular army and the fitness standard is a lot lower. Dont sit here and slag off other peoples hard work. Those who attempt and pass the course are good lads!
