Residency Problem

Post by famewolf »

Help Needed please.

Seems that as a commonwealth citizen from South-Africa I have to live three years in the UK to complete the non-physical Royal Marine requirements before attempting PRMC.

That's great but my problem rests in the fact that the longest Visum I can get is a two and a half-year Visum which sort of leaves me wondering if I'm going to be dodging immigration.

I haven't contacted my local British embassy as yet to verify if the possibility exists for me to reside in the UK under special consideration prior to joining the Royal Marines.

If this is the case and someone else has relevant information please be so kind as to post me a PM or reply to this post.

Thanks

Hey mate,
I'm Australian-British Duel citizen, and I've got my test on February 2nd. I was a little concerned with the residency thing as well, not so much visas as I'm a citizen, but the amount of time you had to reside in the UK before applying. Apparently there are exceptions to these rules, and I know that Australia is one of them. As is New Zealand and Canada. Not sure about SAF but being a Commonwealth country, It's probably in the same catagory. Check directly with the Royal Navy and Marines. When I was trying to get info on this the people on the Navy recruitment line had little idea about these issues, but I found the Greater London AFCO, Royal Navy and Marines branch to be really helpful, give them a call:

Good luck with it,
Josh.
