Australian Army Commandos

Post by Aussie »

Hey fellas,

I know I've been bumming around this foroum for a while now, with the intention of joing the British Army. And I did, but....

An Australian Army unit, 4RAR, has caught my eye. I've known about this unit for a while, but the government only started putting the time and money they deserve into them since September 11 ( and to a lesser extent, East Timor )

Anyway, I really like what I saw. To be honest, it actually filled me with more of a drive to join then any Brit unit did ( no offence :D )

So as it stands, it looks like I may be stying at home, as I now hope to pursue a career with 4RAR. But I know I've got some hard training ahed of me if I want to make the grade and get that green beret. Hopefully I can still hang out here, and give all you w@#k crap because I'll be marching in the sun 8) while yous are shivering away in the rain and sleet with your crap English beer :drinking: :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Here's a link to 4RAR's Career's page:

They sound like our RM and Para's, personally id say go for them, its got to be better fighting for your own country than for some one else’s, even if it is mine  although their operational deployment may not be as good as the British armies...

It seems that the paras and marines get all the majpr, high profile deployments, while the line regiments get stuck with the Balkans and N.I and stuff. It's like that over here, the SAS and commando's get all the big gigs, the reguler battalions get East Timor & the Solomon Islands, which I hear are pretty boring these days

Sweet jesus!
As a fully qualified Commando (Private) serving in the 4 RAR (Cdo) Tactical Assault Group, you can expect to earn up to $2877 per fortnight ($74,820 per year).
I know the Australian dollar is lower than the Canadian dollar but still its only CAD = 1.09747 AUD 1 AUD = 0.911186 CAD a 9 cent difference, how is the cost of living in Australia??? Hell I'm a sergeant and I am only making about 48,000 Canadian $ a year. Thats bollocks.

T put that in perspective, 4RAR's TAG group is a specialist unit which 4RAR personel man. Kind of like the para's Pathfinder Platoon, in that you wouldn't be in it straight away!

Regardless mate, I've been in the Canadian Airborne, then PPCLI for 11 years now, they make nearly 20,000 $ more I as a sergeant do. And I doubt it would take 11 years to become a private in 4RAR.
