obstacles are what you see when you take your eyes off the goal line.
What to expect
I didnt go through basic training as the Paras know it but I did attend Sandhurst. Recommended reading: CQB, by Mike Curtis and Marijuana Time, by Ken Lukowiak. Both went through Depot Para around 1979, ended up in 2 Para and went to the Falklands. Then, one went to the SAS whilst the other went to prison-both are real page-turners and I'm convinced, tell it like it really was. Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose
"Poor Ike, it won't be a bit like the Army. He'll find it very frustrating. He'll sit here and he'll say, 'Do this! Do that!' And nothing will happen."

I went into the Para's from a County Regiment, and just the did P Course.
Basically the training you will get is more gradual than what we got but, but the whole idea of it is not only to get you fit for soldiering, but to see if you have what it takes to be a Para. They at times want to see just what you are made off, they want to see that when your body is telling you it can't go a step further, that you take that step and wont stop or give up on any thing, it is that bit extra that they are looking for that makes a Para or even a Comando stand out when the going gets tough.
