hello im hoping to go on a POC around the start of next year, ive got my second interview jobbie in October.i was just wondering are all you people on this forum university students? because im not and i was hoping this wouldnt put me at a disadvantage although the marines themselves say it wont i cant help but wonder.
can you also please advise me whether these are decent enough times to be runnning: 1 1/2 miler 8:30 min
3 miler 20:00 min
5 miler 32:00 min
obviously im hoping to improve them but i hope these are on there way to being in the right ball park

the route i take for the 3 miler involves a large hill approx 0.9 mile long and is steep and it slows me down.
these are my fastest times at those distances even so i still think theyre good.
i proud of my times obviously there are a lot faster people out there but im not a good runner and ive suprised myself with the improvements ive made.

as i have said i will be attending a POC and i will certainly be trying my best ive worked too hard up till now to start slacking.
but if the worst happens and i fail my POC or AIB i will try once more but after that i must be realistic and accept that im not suited to a commission but i would consider trying to become a commando, im not saying oh its easy to be a commando a lot easier than an officer but i would have a better chance and i was wondering if anyone else has had the same thoughts i dont want this to sound like not confident but ive got to be realistic i cant waste year after year on something that isnt going to happen.
can any of you recommend another option instead?
the only reason im asking this question is because my Dad isnt a supportive one and he keeps going on about "What are you going to do when you fail"
so any help would be great

I, like you, also have the same thoughts. If I am deemed to be unsuitable for a commision by the AIB or POC I am still interested in joining without one. At the moment I have no thoughts on failing and feel that as long as you have done enough training then there is no reason to fail. However, I think it is always good to have a back-up plan and, at the end of the day, I believe that primarily you are a Royal Marine and the commision is secondary.
i agree butch marine first commission second i dont feel that im any better than the commandos and would be more than honoured to be accept as one. there is no reason why i should fail but we live in a crappy world and things dont always turn out the way we want them to.
i feel im being realistic as apposed to negative.
plus im hoping that the training ive put in for a POC and AIB would make me a good candidate for the PRMC.

Must say its a thought thats crossed my mind but ive invested a lot in education and would feel it would be a waste, despite the fact I badly wish to be part of RM life. I think its an individual thing but I personally want to be an officer and thats where it ends. Ive found that if you want something badly enough and are willing to do what is necessary to get there then you'll be fine. Wanting it isnt enough, you got to be smart enough to know how to get there.
