TA Basic
TA Basic
Does anyone know how long basic TA training usually takes? And is there anyway to speed it up like go more than once a week or apply to go on more courses.
Cheers

I've just finished my application and i'm waiting for my medical on the 7th of october. From what the copral said who was interveiwing me to become a fully trained solider it can take from 3 - 12 months depending on how avalible you are.
Thats all i know. When i've fully joined i'm just gona get stuck in and go on as many weekends as possible. Do the same and i think it will speed up!
There are other territorials here who most prob have a much better idea!

aldo basic training is as follows...
You go along for a "selection" weekend this is basically to see if you can breath etc...
You then have two TAFs weekends... Territorial Army Foundation weekends..
In these you will cover military law, drill, a little bit of phis nothing to taxing, on the second TAF weekend this is spent almost entirely doing drill for small pass out parade a the end on the sunday...
You then do a 2-week res at one of the army training centres...
Then there are 6 gap weekends, although i think it may well be 4 now...
These cover more advanced drill, first aid again, range work, map reading, etc... If pasha comes back talk to him as he has just finished his 6 gaps... and will have all the info on this...
Failing that read the thread named TA, it is also discussed on that...
Hope that helps

Your in boro at the mo then Aldo?? (i'm at tees uni but i'm from north yorkshire lol) I'm currently trying to get into the Green Howards B Infantry Who are on stockton road. (if you are in Middlesborough) I understand Green Howards are also a Yorkshire unit too so if so your pretty close to where i'll be. It would be funny if you were going to the same place as me! I noticed there are plenty of new recruits in all different phases of the recruitment system because of the board in the office where i was interveiwed.Aldo wrote:Cheers all. Rob, nice to see a fellow smoggy on the boards. What regt are you joining I'm thinking about the Green Howards infantry but I heard that ther're might be some advantages to joining the signals but I have a few months to decide yet.
I dont know about the signals mate. I realy wana join the GH's because i know how to get to the place at least! The Sigs are at Brambles farm i believe ...Dunno where bouts it is!

I'm currently in Phase 1 with the 35th signals TA regiment, just had the one weekend so far.
Firstly, it's all changed now, it's 4 weekends in Phase one, each2 weeks apart, then the 2 weeks Phase two with the regs, then 4 weekends for Phase 3.
Apparently they had a problem with the guys who'd only done 2 weekends before the phase 2 not knowing enough, so they spread it over the 4 weekends.
as for fitness, so long as you can run 1.5 miles in 10:30 by your Phase 2 fortnight, you should be fine, at lest that's what we've been told.
I'm overweight (doc wants me to lose 15 kilo's before I see him again)and not a great runner, but I'm getting closer to 10:30...
not sure what the advantage with the sigs is you're talking about, other than once in, fitness standards are probably more lax than infantry, and you get your driving license, and HGV license as part of trade training, which is useful.

Aldo. Different roles mean different training, these guys are signallers so they are on about different stuff.
For infantry it can take from 3 months to a year depending on how much time you can put in.
There is Phase1 and Phase2 training. Phase one is made up of 7 weekend long modules which you have to pass to move onto Phase 2, phase 2 is your combat infantryman course which is 2 weeks long.
Just to let you know
