Prince Harry

Post by bishamten »

Prince Harry.

An Immature Teenage, not capable of leading a granny across a road?
Or
A fine young gentleman of Officer material capable of leading soldiers?

Having read in the news the ongoing saga of Prince Harry and his plans to forge a career as an Officer in the Army, I believe that Prince Harry will pass his RCB regardless of his ability.

The fact that he is a member of the Royal family will ensure that he is successful at both RCB and Sandhurst.

There has been cases of this before, Uncle Edward had attempted the YO course at CTC Lympstone. Did he deserve to even get that far?

The only member of the Royal Family who I can see that has served with any substance was Prince Andrew.

So my question for debate is this.

Will Prince Harry pass out of Sandhurst, even if he falls sort of the required standard?

Cheers,
Kev

Ohh thats alright then,

As long as I am not completely mad, and it is Standard British Army practise to Entertain our Royals.

I sure Officer Cadet Windsor will fit in just fine.

I feel safer already :-?

Not to worry bishampten, young Harry will never be placed in an operational environment where the security of the nation is dependent upon his military skills or intellect ( I hope) :D

Let's just step back a second and consider the possibility that he will pass out and be every inch a capable young officer fit to lead men. You don't know that he won't be, seems to be an awful lot of assumption here that it will be a fait accomplis. Maybe it is, but then again maybe he will be a very accomplished officer in spite of that. Everything I've read about Edward quitting the Royal Marines suggests that it was a personal decison based on him deciding that it was not what he wanted, it had nothing to do with him not being able to hack it or not being up to the required standard.

As far as Harry goes, let's wait and see shall we? It seems tremedously negative to presume that, just because he will likely be assured of passing out due to his status, he will be, by definition, unfit for the job. That doesn't make the situation "fair", especially for his classmates, but it doesn't mean he won't be of the required standard either.

No problem with the mess bills if he did join the Cavalry :D

Me thinks he will join the Welsh Guards or maybe QDG (Queens Dragoon Guards) , horses and all that.

Dmanton makes a good point, he did very well in the Cadets and maybe he will make a good 'ossifer', time will tell.

What I would like to know is, how on earth did he pass the Sandhurst selection?According to sources, he has not got the appropriate educational qualifications to gain entry, unless he knows some one in high places.

Maybe it is a bit Presumptuous of me to assume that Prince Harry will not be a capable Officer.

But I believe that no matter how good he is, or bad, he will never be judged on his ability. I think there will always be the Shadow of Heritage, and that will be the overriding factor.

Tremedously negative maybe but he has n't demonstrated great abiltiy in his studies, or his social behaviour (The stories of smoking Cannabis).

We'll never know if those stories are true or not, but if a young man with his A Level grades (from a Comprehensive not Eton) and a liking for the weed walked into the AFCO and said I want to be a Officer, I would presume that he would be shown the door pretty quick.

If Harry is a good Officer, there will always be people (like me) who question him. Equally if he is a bad Officer there will still be questions.

I guess it comes with the title Prince,

Damned if you do, Damned if you dont.

Let's also not forget that it's not so long that the second in line to the throne went to war, OVER his mum's objections, and did himself pretty proud, flew exactly the same rota and sorties as the other pilots on the squadron, up to and including acting as an Exocet decoy for the ships, and did his fair share of snurgling around the hills in a not particularly nimble helo, carrying loads and hoping to avoid the gentle attentions of the Pucaras. I don't know all the facts (few will) but I hear he's a bloody good pilot into the bargain. . .

Question and investigate, but give the bloke a chance first!

Dmanton, Your talking about Prince Andrew in the Falklands ?

Point Proven, maybe its in the family / genes.

The facts speak for themselves and Prince Andrew did have a long and succesful career with the Royal Navy.

As you say, lets just wait and see what happens with Harry, and give him chance in the fist place.

I am sure we'll be kept up to speed on his progress (Good or Bad) by the press.

Twas HMS Bronnington, Harry, 1976,
his last posting before leaving the Navy.
A few years ago whilst visiting The Big House
in Camberwell.A place for down and outs he came
across one Kevin Boyle who was a former Matelot.
Mr Boyle who had until recently been running 100.000.000 pound
contracts for the government but fell on hard times.
Prince Charles on leaving the centre turned to his aids
and said 'he used to be on my ship you know'.
They had indeed served together.
