As an "oldy" still reasonably in touch, I can confirm that the badge with the frog in it, is a blazer badge. As for the new cap badge, I think it lacks imagination, style and in no way does it represent what the SBS were and still are - a mainly Royal Marines unit. Us oldies, in the main are not happy with it nor are we happy with the variation on the motto - Not By Strength - By Guile. (Or as we use to change it to, Not by Strength - By Gilly - and only those who knew Gilly would understand that!!)
But what do we old farts matter!!

see Dave, all things are possibleI am a former Royal Marine. I am also former SBS ( 20 years,) I have great reservations about he way theSBS are going. Also the Cap Badge and the Motto ie "Not By Strength but by Guile" changed to " By Strength and Guile" does not go down well with the former brigade.
It goes against all that th SBS were.

Not By Strength - By Guile.
Out of interest this can be traced back to the days of Gidion, a very able commander of his time.
" Guile often succeeds where force of arms fail "
It worked for him.
It would seem that the new motto fails to understand the ethos of the SBS and seems more to do with a corporate image make over.
Guile--Gilly?
