Timeframe from initial contact to RCB

Post by BFG »

Hi

I've always been interested in joining the RA or RE as an officer for years but never done anything serious about it, but my job is so boring that its made me decide to go for army.

It would be great if anyone could shed some light on how long the process takes from walking into the AFCO to possibly going on the RCB, and some advice on what they are looking for at this initail meeting, as I can't wait to get out of my job and into something better.

Thanks

BFG

A lot depends on how much time you are dealing with or how quickly you want to get in.

For me flash to bang was about Mar (appl) - May (pre RCB) and then RCB June, RMAS Sept.

Good luck

Thanks for the advice, given the fact that I would like to go through the process as quickly as possible could you give me some pointers as to a good level of fitness to attain prior to RCB.

Such as time for 1.5 mile, push ups and sit ups.

Thanks again.

Well you don't do a 1.5 mile run at RCB, just a 500m sprint. I can't remember the times exactly but you really need to be doing 1.5 miles in at least 10mins 30 as you will need to do at least this at Sandhurst. Most finish in 9 mins or less once you are there.

Press ups, you will do a mini assault course on the RCB that you'll need good upper body strength for, you are not directly tested in terms of press ups, sit ups and so on. You wil need to be able to pull yourself over walls and up on to ledges and so on using pretty much just your arms so I'd get some pull ups in, over and underhand.

At Sandurst you need to be able to do at least 44 press ups and (I think) 36 sit ups but again these are the minimums to get the lowest passes on tests and most do far more.

I'd just suggest you have a look at some of the RM fitness pages on this site as they do detail some good fitness programs if you haven't got one already.
