Always carry a towel it can be infinitly usefull.
It doesn’t matter if the SA80 or the Challenger II perform 100%, the media has sown the seed in everyone’s mind that both are crap. When did you last see a newspaper report on either?, Challenger performed well and, as the media seem to have gone quiet on the issue, I’d presume SA80A2 did as well.

I’m sure they’d use a very large DOSE if necessary, it’s an attention grabber. What baoyonet dose the UKs armed forces use?

You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!
I never implied the SA80 or Challenger II were bad I dont know much about the Challenger II but it seems fine to me and the olny problem (I think) with the SA80 is it is not built very well or something like that but I dont know. And as far the the bayonet goes I just wanted to know what one the UK uses I dont care about what the media shows I just wanted to know waht UK soldiers thought of the SA80.
By the way it dose matter if they preform 100% this is serious stuff.

If you had the sense not to reply to my sarky post I’d have left this alone, but, if you could actually be bothered in searching this forum your answer to ‘are you happy with the SA80?’ has already been covered - extensively.
As for the bayonet, a 2 second Google search will find the answer to your question:
The SA80 bayonet is a British bayonet designed specifically for the SA80 assault rifle. The SA80 bayonet has a 7 inch, clip point shaped blade of stainless steel with widely spaced serrations along the first half of the main edge. The blade is fitted with a hole to enable the bayonet and sheaf to be connected for use as a scissors-type cutter.
And no the SA80 hasn’t been retro-fitted to carry 18” sword bayonets.
1. the government ditches it because it has become a POLITICAL liability.
2. the government keeps it because, although it’s become a POLITICAL liability, they’ve invested far too much money and spin in the thing to backdown.

Yes it is a serious matter, and it will be resolved one of two ways:By the way it dose matter if they preform 100% this is serious stuff.

Now now chaps
Im in training and we are using the A2,
my training team say that it is the best assualt rifle in the world now that the 'glitches' have been ironed out.
I have not heard any reports from the Gulf to the contrary yet. Although I have noticed that alot of the trained ranks I have seen around camp doing various other courses still use the A1.

Im not yet in the Marines and haven't fired the SA80, or even held one, therefore I have no experience of it.
However, I am against it. Basically, im left handed, but you have to shoot from your right shoulder, which will undoubtably cause complications. For instance, a soldiers full potential may not be reached, or thier life may even be put in danger.
Not everybody is right handed, so why just make a gun for the right? The SA80 was just cheaper, on paper! (Afterall, you cant strip a gun and clean it when you could need it at any moment).
I once read that a joint patrol consisting of Royal Marines and USMC came across Taliban soldiers in Afghanistan, and that the SA80s failed when the Marines tried to shoot, but there lives were saved when the US Marines opened fire and killed the enemy. Anyone else hear anything about this?
I also read another account of the war, saying that a group of Marines had to drop thier SA80s and pick a bunch of AK47s from a box in a cave when they came under attack.
This could just be Tabloid shit. Afterall, I dont recall anything being said about the rifle after Iraq.

The Best Is Yet To Come
I’m also a lefty, were more intelligent you know
, anyways back to the thread, I’m also against the SA80 for that same reason, I’ve held one and if feels totally un natural.
I just hope the government drops it in favor of the G36, which can be fired from the left hand...
