She passed her Commando tests on Friday May 31 and was awarded her Green Beret - although that does not qualify her to join the Royal Marines; qualification for the Green Beret does not automatically make the successful candidates members of the Corps.
She isn't actually serving with the Royal I don't think, this quote is off http://www.navynews.co.uk/articles/2002 ... 060601.asp#

Are you sure that she was given a box? I would have thought that anyone competing for the green beret had to do the same as everyone else.

I remember when she was awarded the beret - it was on the bbc news for a moment. There were at least 2 other women who failed before her attempt.

When I went to the AFCO, I was given a sheet with sample questions to give me an idea what to expect in my interview. One of the questions was 'who was Hannah Snell?' It turned out that she was the only woman ever to serve with the corps on the frontline. She had followed her husband (or fiancee) into the marines. No one ever questioned her gender, but she fought bravely and was wounded twice.[/quote]

I joined in 1971 as a Junior Marine aged 16 years and 2 months, 9 months training later, got green lid and joined 40 Cdo. One lad in the troop was 16 and a couple of weeks and so got his even younger than yours truly.

On the commando course, capt Tattersall did have the same standards as the other blokes (no boxes), however there was some genuine concern that she was allowed to take the course even thoguh she wasn't needed in the brigade; hence until relatively recently she used her commando skills in the army foundation college (she has since been attached to commando logisitics so is/was/will be serving with the Royal Marines, to answer to bird.
