Back to The Front

Just watched Mike Nicholson`s patronising load of shite. "The Paras, as eveyone from Brigade Command knew they would, marched first into Stanley. This was their war."
I thought this was going to be a serious documentary. Guess we`ll have to wait.

My old man was at Dunkirk and Normandy and he used to comment that films and documentaries seemed to show Uncle Sam bravely winning the war singlehanded. After a while he gave up whinging (to nobody in particular) and instead made sure that the stories and memories of his friends he seved with live on through me and I in turn try to do the same through my son. I gave up watching progs on the Falklands a few years ago as I realised that they would never be wholly truthfull, that whilst they are based on fact they are biased and that there was no earthly chance of my Ships activities being promulgated.

The whole idea behind the Fearless is to set the record straight with everything factual (well we will have some of the better stories I suppose). This will present the complete picture of what went on not just the little bits which the press want to show.
I have said it before the only way to get noticed in battle is to have heavy casualties. If you think of all the war time stories how many are remembered for having no one killed? how many are remembered for the thousands of dead, I can list hundreds, 'into the valley of death rode the 600'.
into the valley where no one died hasn't got the poetic licence or the tales of bravery against all odds.
So lets get the museum right so we can teach it how it should be taught not how the moguls of the press want us to be remembered, as the Paras back ups.
