Ok, wasn't meaning to cause tears. Just v. difficult to get any sort of knowledge on the regiments from the outside, or if all are looked upon as equal(yeah, right). Websites are vague and diplomatic for obvious reasons. Any regiment can give you reasons why they are really good, but to those not in the know, you just don't know what they're leaving out. Or maybe they are all brilliant.
Most members of most regiments think their lot are the bees knees, inevitably this is case, in the same way that some people support Man U and others are City fans.
Also bear in mind that a reputation from yesteryear does not make a good unit today. Good units are run by good commanders who in turn get the best out of their men and equipment. Similarly if the boss is on his last legs within the Services and doesn't give a toss it'll be reflected by slack attitude of those around him.
Personal opinion, become a Royal Marine and the problem goes away, we are the bees knees.

my new private army is the best.
we are highly trained in covert operations such as 'getting the underage lad in' and 'hide the bottle of whisky'
we are also trained in full frontal assaults such as 'get of my mate' and 'that aint fair hes out numbered'
were also quite good at sewing, but to the extreme. i do a mean Interfacing Hemstitch

stuck in a rut, unsure about the future, unsure about the military lifestyle, for a while anyway

Sh**ing on your opp's. Hmm?! Seems about right to me

There is no 'best' Army regiment. First you need to define what best means? As Archie rightly points out, it's a sterile debate.
Read the history books, check out the uniforms (maybe that's your thing?), and make your choice. Once you're in, you'll be absolutely certain that you're in the 'best' regiment. That's how it works.
