Corps pissed !
Corps pissed !
Is there anything wrong with being corps pissed without actually being in the corps yet? It's always been around me, with my old man an ex-royal, and marine cadets etc.. It just seems so natural (i'm sure i'll be eating my words on the bottom field!)
Waiting around until i can go back to Lympstone.
Thanks for that, nice to know its 'normal' (although mt mates would beg to differ).
Training's coming along strong although i only have 6 weeks until the big day and may have underestimated it a little (i didnt find this site until quite late on in my training), but if i up my training now and go for it for the last 6 weeks i reckon i should be fine
at the end of the day if you can meet the requirements, the rest is down to guts and how much you want it!

Another thing is expect the worst....going there with an idealistic view of a nice little jog round a field, with 5 star accomidation isn't really what it's all about. I know alot of you don't think that atall, but I think a small percentage of people do. The people running these things have to put up with the biggest unemployable retards on this planet, on a daily bases. So if they initially appear a little cold and rude who cares, as it's there job to sift through hundreds of degenerates to find the best. And it must get a bit annoying and suicidally boring sometimes.

Degenerates
Well put JaCk,
Curiously, I phoned the careers office to ask about my son's education because he didn't take CGSEs, he was taught using the American system. Anyway blokey says never mind about that, Royal don't want no GCSEs anyway. Hmmm. I do hope being able to read is a requirement.

Works both ways tho.. Supposedly I suit the Navy more because I have 10 GCSE's. Bullshit is what I say. You can be whatever you want to be. I know life isn't about qualifications. While I was working part-time in a mail sorting warehouse people were constantly asking why I was working there. Just because I have the qualifications doesnt automatically mean I need to be a lawyer or solicitor. Im going for the Corps, Only I can choose my future. I hate people that brag about grades. A GCSE in biology isn't gonna save your life on the battlefield.

The first time I went to my AFCO (2 years ago) I was told since I had all my GCSE’s and was thinking about going to college, that I should go to college and then university and become an officer. At the time I thought 'this guy must know what he's talking about' now I know he didn't. About a year and a half ago I realised I had no desire to be an officer at all. However I stuck in at college until a month ago when i finished and also realised, I had made the biggest mistake ever.
Qualifications are what you need to be a rich civvy not a soldier
PS. I would have spoke about the original topic but I don't know the term 'corps pissed' I initially thought it was something to do with alcohol, but the other posts don’t support that theory.
PPS. I'm going to get the ball rolling on joining the marines later on today(as a marine), at a more reasonable hour, I doubt the AFCO is open at 1am. I was going to go today but serious sun burn meant that leaving the house was not an option as I looked like a lobster who haS just walked through a tipex factory.

I don't know if it's urban myth, but I did hear of a guy who had just finished medical school (successfully!), but wanted some adventure, so kept schtum about his qualifications and signed up for the Paras. Got him in a spot of bother when his qualifications came to light later on, but he had finished training and was doing the job well. . .
Like I say, just something I heard, I have no info on it's veracity, but it's a good story. . .

At one time whilst in the Corps I was informed that I must have gained 2 degrees in misery because I looked really, really P*ssed off. (nearest I ever got to being Corp Pi**ed)
NAMMET 4-2, and a CSE grade 1 in woodwork!
Have improved since. MA in History (Romano/Anglo Saxon period) Via English heritage work. (it took me yonks) the most important requirement in the mob is COMMON DOG.

Some of you have said qualifications aren’t important, well your wrong, they are, your not going to be a marine, Para, crab for ever as your body wont allow this.
Unless your un lucky enough to die doing this job, having something to fall back on will never hurt, plus I hear that you can gain qualifications whilst in...

Life in the forces nowadays is a bit hectic for gaining any heavy educational qualifications. That said, I do agree that if you have the opportunity to get them behind you the easy way, i.e. in or straight from school, do it! There are those of us who left the Corps with no educational qualifications at all (despite being ex-grammar school in my case) and set about it the hard way, alongside a full time job. My daughters saw how little time I had for them sometimes when the sun was shining and a family outing clashed with getting the next assignment in to university. Get them done whilst you can, the Corps will wait for you and if you miss a war, lucky you!

I think getting an MA after leaving just proves a point. Another 4 years and I will have (hopefully, very hopefully) a PHd in my chosen field.
OK, I might not have bothered whilst serving. But, There are lots of ex Booties who have excelled in different fields after leaving the Corp. And I dare say there still will be in another 100 years.
It is what Royal does. Just look at the blokes on this forum.
A couple of weeks ago I met up with my DI (Yorkie Malone) and a bunch of blokes who served with said DI. At one stage we were all talking about ex Booties and what they had done. In nearly all cases they had over achieved in whatever field they had taken up.
Bootnecks have PMA! And I think it shows in most cases.
