Urgent info needed on recent RM Ops

Post by faddius »

I am about to head to the AFCO (in 1 hour doh!) for my RT and Interview and have forgotten the names and places of the recent RM ops.

Where are they now?

Op Telic: Who went where in Iraq, who helped with the fire dispute and who did a tour in NI?

Afganistan: What was the name of the ops and who took part?

Sierra Leone: What was the op name?

UK military operations in Iraq are being conducted under Operation Telic.

HQ 3 Commando Brigade (to withdraw in May)
40 Commando Royal Marines
42 Commando Royal Marines
Helicopter air groups aboard Ark Royal and Ocean.

HMS Ark Royal (aircraft carrier) (withdrawal announced 11 April)
HMS Ocean (helicopter carrier) (withdrawal announced 30 April)

40 and 42 are now home.

As far as Afganistan is concerned.

Operation Veritas was the UK's contribution to the US-led Operation Enduring Freedom, which began on 7 October 2001. Task Force Jacana began returning home on 4 July, with the further contingents returning on 12 and 19 July. Drawdown completed at the end of July.

Operations conducted by 45 Commando Group included Op Ptarmigan, Op Snipe, Op Condor and Op Buzzard.

45 Commando then took over from 40 Commando the task of providing an in-theatre contingency reserve force, and they form the core of the battlegroup now deployed on a warfighting task in Afghanistan. The battlegroup includes a wide range of elements drawn from all three Services to produce a fully self-contained force.
