Advice Please?!

Post by Alex »

Im at college, and was wondering, do you think it would be a good idea to join the TA while studing? to get extra knowledge about the army before joining up? i only ask as friends in the past have done this and it has been suggested to me!
Thanks

I and a few others are joining the Royal Marines Reserve whilst I'm at uni, to join full time after uni, so I suppose the Perce option should be okay too. The only thing I havent asked yet is if we have another major war in the next 4 or 5 years would the reserves be called up compulsorily whilst still studying at uni?

Yes, Rabby. It's part of your obligation as a reserve serviceman.

Are you having a laugh ?

If the prospect of war 'intefering' with your studies is such a worry, you should forget about joining the forces altogether

Alex, it is possible, just possible, that close proximity to explosive devices may improve your command of the English Language. Be honest, it couldn't do any harm could it?

I would have thought if you want to do something military while studying without being deployed, you're limited to some sort of OTC program, or the cadets. But if you join any of the services, part time included, you should expect to be called up at some inconvenient time.

I was asking for advice not telling off.

Alex, I've stated before, if we can't read or readily understand people's posts we invariably do not bother, especially if it is evident that they have not made an effort. Consequently you will not get the advice you require.
It takes a tad of effort on your part. Try reading your posts on this subject and see how many errors you can spot. 11 so far in your post at 1824. :o

Alex you’ll find that most of the members of this forum are from the older generations, and they appreciate having posts spelt and punctuated properly, plus it makes for a better read, doesn’t take long either, I was given the same advise as you have been given, type your posts into word, spell check it and punctuate properly!!! One of the most important things is going to be able to communicate your orders clearly and concisely to your men if you want to be an officer, maybe ill see you at Sandhurst in a few years...

Alex, meself here in 'Norn iron' has asked said aforementioned queries in the "Joining the army" sub-forum ( correct term?)
Check there and consolidate time, bandwidth and effort of everyone who may be able to help, eh?

I have spoken to the local TAVRCA who are brillant, but short on details of units outside their area -suprise!
Talk to them - its costs nothing (esp. if you don't pay the phone bill  )

AS to the UOTC / TA 'proper' debate, I'm somewhat concerned about the UOTC
