Royal Marines have meet there Quota

Post by davo141 »

i had my medical and passed..PRMC date september 16th (provisonal)

the guy that briefed me afterwards informed me that it would take something special to get in this time of year due to them passing as many as needed...

as someone said earlier 50+ pressups
70+situps
minimum of 6 pull ups
3:20 for the assault couse does not pass you
you show slight weekness anywhere and you fail!

i arnt sure when the quota starts again, maybe september (hopefully or january)

cheers..

Thought as much. Gym test 1 had several people RT (Told they were failed and to go home or stay and watch). Its more likely they will 'restart' in september i would imagine to co-incide with the YO batch thou i could be wrong. Im not lying when i say if you dont meet the maximums immediatly after achieving 12+ on the bleep test you wont even be considered.

Dont go thinking they will drop the standards in sept and let anybody in mate, it doesn't matter when you go, it will be hard and only the best will be chosen.

I doubt standards will fluctuate very much over time, if they've got a surplus of applicants now that's unlkely to change much in a few months. I think they were lower as for a few years previously I believe the RM was having the same recruiting problems as everyone else and was short. In any case, I think I certainly will have to keep training for a bit longer to ensure maximums - Gipper suggested to get maximum marks in the PRMC you're looking at 150% of the maximum = ninety press ups. YIKES! :(.

Its a good idea to be able to do more than the maximums before you go down but I don't agree that your scores will be lower on the day. I got 54 press-ups in gym test 1 when I had only managed 52 at my pre-prmc a week before so I think that the adrenalin on the day will actually help you through (don't go thinking you can ease off on your training though!!)

Unfortunately it is well possible that there is a max ceiling for annual places and due to the recent war(s) that RM has been involved their exposure has been somewhat increased.

In past occasions directly after a war applications to join the armed forces jump very significantly as does applications to leave, and as a result the RM could be rapidly aproaching their annual financial quota sooner than other years.

It is quite possible that after the Summer break in August the new annual cycle recommences and a renewed budget and targets will be set. To confirm the financial year cycles your best bet is to get on to the Directorate of Naval Recruiting or train even harder and better to make sur you make the cut.

Hello Davo141,

I did my PRMC in mid-September of last year. I didn't get the maximum scores, yet I had no problems getting in.

This is my basic info.

Age: 27 (which they didn't like)

Bleep Test: 13
Push-ups: 40
Sit-ups: 60
Chin-ups: 6

Assault Course: 3:10

And I have to say that I was one of the fitter candidates at my PRMC.

So, you see, it's not impossible to get in. BUT, I do suggest you train hard because the PRMC is very challenging.

i have almost tripled my training these last couple of days due to me having a target to go for now...

cosists of around 100 press ups.
160 press ups - in 80 batches
severeal methods of pull-ups on the bar
gym more often
either 2 runs, a run and a long dog walk or a run and a bikeride everyday...
weights for 45 minutes everynight??

any suggestions of improvingor critisims??

Only to suggest that you might give yourself a day off once in a while to avoid injury through overtraining

Jesse, Why did they have a problem with your age? I would have thought they would prefer a couple of older recruits amongest boys.
I surpose the training team might find it harder to push around a bloke rather than some1 fresh out of school/colege/uni.
alright

Hello jonboy,

You've got it exactly; they think that since I am 27 (actually 28 now) I'll not be inclined to listen to a 22 year old corporal.

But they've got me all wrong. I'm ready to listen to anyone who knows what they're talking about.

You beat me to that one Sticks. For anyone who is thinking that way, I would strongly reccommend an attitude change before they get there.

Aye - Andy.
