When I get stessed, tense or nervous, I always like to read through Gippers PRMC diary. Everyone gets run into the ground before they are tested and I'm quite good at finding reserve energy when pushed, I imagine I could go till I faint

Well I need an A in Maths for my prefered course, Aeronautical Engineering at Glasgow Uni. If I only get a B then its Strathclyde to do Aero-Mechanical Engineering. If I get a C or fail then my next port of cal will be AFCO and getting a PRMC date.

Well actually I went into Afco last year to see about joining RAF as a pilot, basically he told me to p*ss of and stop wasting his time. You see the RAF types want specific people who have gone to specific schools and done specific things. Nearly all pilots are from the ATC, which I never heard of untill I went to AFCO, and they expect you to have got Duke of Edinborough awards, know absolutely everything RAF and basically act like a tw@t. It was then I decided, they get paid well, I'd love to fly them, but chances of getting in are next to nil.

for the run

Post by yapudan »

My advice though is to get as close as you can to the front so you can set a pace it is way harder at the back because your slowing and then catching up because the pace is harder to get on too but at the front you can just set your pace to that of the pti.

And if you're at the front, you wont be tripping over the guy in front, or worse, trip him up.

Well, ive just started my PRMC fulltime training :)

Just been out for a timed 3mile run to see where i stand, as i never time myself over 3miles before.

Bear inmind i am ballbagged today as i was swimming this morning, and am jus generally run-down (last week of 6th form, so loads of work going on, not much sleep). I did 24mins.

With 5weeks or so till PRMC i think i'll be okay...just....maybe :s

I remember doing the run once in old (really old) issue pumps - lost my trainers... it was laike running in bare feet... absolutley no cushion at all...
Can only remeber my (individual part) last 1.5 miles coming in at 8 minutes 20 secs - not good on the knees!

3 Mile at 18mins is pretty solid stuff.

I can push just over 19 and with someone to compete against could probably get to 18.

Some good times posted here. I found the 3 miler the easiest part of the PRMC and like Dan, the hardest part was the bottom field. I find cross country running much easier than boring road running and get much better times on the gravel, probably as the pace is varied (i.e. up and down hills). My best 3 mile run on the tarmac is 19 min 21 secs and for cross country I can manage it in 16 min 6 secs although I am not 100% sure that the latter route is exactly 3 miles (two experts told me so). I'll soon see on Tuesday whether my CV has improved as Dan and I will be doing Gym test 1 all over again. I absolutely hate bleep tests!

Who sets the pace? The instructor or the guy at the front?
I've always found running hard if the guy in front is better than me, since I'm always pushing myself too hard to stay with him.
I know that you run as a group, but if the group finishes in 20 minutes, do you still have the next 2.5 minutes or are you f*cked?
If someone behind overtakes you (if they can) have you failed?
And how the hell do you run 3 miles in 15 minutes? The PRMC is going to be hard with superman running!

I havn't posted on here for a while so i thought i put my word in.
When i started training last year i couldn't run one mile without stoping. Now i can run for ages, and my best 3 mile time is 19.36 minutes. BUT when i went for my PRMC a couple of months ago my best time was barly 20.40 minutes, and i failed the run on the day. Be ware its not all about your running ability, if your like me and your not a natural runner it's gonna stress you mentaly more than everyone else.
I'm prety confident that i can crack it when i eventually go for it again whether its with the reserves or the regulars.
My best advise for running is not just to run the 3 miler all the time, vary the route, distence and terrain. I run 5 times a week, 2 short fast runs (1.5 miles, over varying terrian) 2 Medium runs (between 3 and 5 miles usually), one long run (between 6 and 10+ miles).

By the way, who's watching that RM documentary on discovery channal at about 12 - 12.30 at night? I see it on accasionaly, and there following recrutes through training, it is a damn good insight. I've spotted a couple of the staff from my PRMC aswell :) .

Aye,

How many of them programs are there in the series?

Ive seen three of them - the first week, the parents day, and the 30 miler.

Then it stopped.

There was a couple on the History Channel also - Suicide Missions, about the Marines, and one about the Mountain Leaders.
