Gearjammer, With all due respect to the US, Zimbabwe is a problem that should be fixed by the UK and the other Commonwealth countries. Militarily the UK can do this by itself, however, the complex issue is that Zimbabwe is land locked, therefore, agreement with other African nations is required.
The Commonwealth is made up of nations of the old British Empire who volunterily joined together in a common interest. I made that statement in a sarcastic mode. Like most universal groups there are disagreements. In the case of Zimbabwe, the other African nations are against military action, hence the push to have Mugabe step down. Do you see the similarities here when the Arab nations tried to get Hussein to step down?
What riles me is that Zimbabwe used to be one of the richest countries in Africa. Now it's people are suffering from starvation and their white population and black opposition groups are in fear of their lives. Yes something should be done about the situation.
Aye - Andy.
PS. To Barry C, My HQ in Mombasa was the Bristol Bar.

I know what you mean about the commonwealth taking care of it and don't have a problem with that-I just want the US to do SOMETHING!Like acknowledge the problem publicly and propose a security council resolution, diplomatic pressure,etc.. I don't expect military action or anything drastic but I have yet to see anything in the news about the US making an effort on any front regarding Zimbabwe.Whatever the rest of the world thinks many Americans do care about people in countries without oil and I'd like to see our government express an interest. There may be something going on that I don't know about, but I do keep myself rather well informed.
For those who have had to defend it, liberty has a flavor the protected will never know
