Matt, get into the cheese, eggs and bread, top up with regular infusions of potatos and pasta. Occasional rub downs with guinness soaked bread rolls may help. But definitely the dairy diet. Lard is for impossible cases, the weight charts are surely not final deciders, there has to be a tolerance?
You should talk to somebody who gives a f**k.

Stop training immediately, have a Big Mac for Breakfast, one for lunch and then a full super zised meal with ice-cream for dinner

Just joking, a good diet obviously with an increased intake of protein (egg, cheese, Dairy etc), moderate amounts of red meat and continue to train. Im sure from memory that muscle weighs more than fat so start puting on that extra muscle

Best of luck, Im sure you can gain that extra in no time!

As above plus:
if yer skinny then start doing the heavy weights (about 8-12 max reps for 3 sets) 2 or 3 times a week for increased muscle mass and size, and therefor weight.

Good luck.

I'm in the same boat as you - 53kg's at the moment :). I have quite a high metabolism though so eating lots doesn't work unless I completely stop training (or spend eighteen consecutive hours a day eating), so I've taken to weight training as mentioned above to put on weight. I haven't been doing it for very long so haven't sen any gains yet, but if it doesn't work there's always heavy metal surgery (like plastic surgery, but implanting depleted uranium plates in your chest :) ).

Tin of tuna every day and a steak every week will see you gain mass. Don't be tempted by Creatine as that just fills you full of water but can increase muscle if you train like a loon whilst on it.

I used to put my weight down to a high metabolism it's just I wasn't eating enough.

Download a Diet from the net or better still buy the "Nod Circuit Training" book, it has a whole chapter on diets and foods, If you follow something like that you will soon gain mass.

This world of underweight (malnurished?!?) is completely new to me.

Can't go wrong with:

(9am) Breakfast: 3+ bowls of cereal and 3/4 L milk.
(11am) 2 Pita breads filled with butter, salami and cheese.
(2pm) Cooked lunch of lasagna or big Roll
(5pm) Buscuits and more bread or pita bread
(8pm) Cooked dinner spuds/pasta/rice and meat/fish/chicken and veg.
(11pm) Snack on apple and/or busicuts.

During the day drink 1 1/2 litres of water (add dilute juice for variation), 1/2 L of fruit juice and a further1/4 milk on top of cereal milk. A weekly intake of 10+ pints also prevents malnutrition. I drink lager (less cals?) so slightly less if Guinness or ale drinker.

This diet has 21 years of practical application. I weigh just under 70kg 178cm tall. BMI 22.09

It all comes down to metabolism. Some people can gorge like an Etheopian at an all you can eat and not put on an ounce. Others can put on weight inhaling dust. I have a bowl of Musli, tuna baguette and soup and a pasta/rice dish every day. I am stuck at 86Kgs at 6ft but have a heavy frame and a body fat of 13%, BMI 25ish - go figure. Years of rugby tend to turn you a certain shape. Oh well. My mummy loves me.

Matt

There are loads of ways to gain weight, you simply need take more calories in than you are bunring, therefore outdoing your energy balance.

Don't take in excess amounts of fats though, excess carbs is what you need - Lots of Pasta, Rice etc (Total Carb Central) - aim to increase you daily cals by 500 at the start - this should provide you with about a 1lb a week gain - Eat more if you can.

Stay off the cardio if possible and stick to the weights and hopefully you should be gaining in no time.

You could also go to Holland & Barrett and try some of the Weight Gain 3000 stuff although it is ridiculously expensive - For the same effect try mixing about 50g of Powered Milk into a pint of normal full fat milk and then chuck a couple of bananas in and blend it up.

It'll put hairs around places you never thought possible 8)

Well, back here in the low lands of Holland there are similair problems with weight.
I've heard plenty of stories of people who were rejected (mostly for a time of 6 months, after that, thy could try again) who did't weigh enough. It's calculated by length. A close friend was 1.79m and his weight wás 64KG, and he had to weigh 71 Kilo's within 6 months.

Here's what he did;

A lot of fitness, train heavy, and not too many repeats. After a fitness session, so when you call it a day, have an Egg shake, or ehh, (bloody hell, what do you call it in english...) white of an egg shake or sometinh like that.
It's NO creatine, and it's all perfectly natural. This makes your muscles heal a little quicker and it makes you heavy, in a short matter of time. When you do that twice a week, you can gain a kilo in one month, with ease. (You do have to train, or you'll get FAT, don't think it'll be in your advantage then..)

Also, i'm not sure if it's beïng sold in the UK, but here we have Drink Breakfast. (Goodmorning drink breakfast) and when you drink this throughout the day, watch yourself gain weight :D
