I don't understand....why would Chris Ryan conseal his true identity, for his picture is all over the internet...

Doesn't that mean, that any person who know how to "google" can find out his true identity?

McNab did some hell of a better job, his identity is still, somewhat consealed.

Anyway, i've read both books, both Brave Two Zero, as the one that got away (and several other too) and some things are a bit odd.

For example, in Bravo Two Zero, we could read, that there was a seal in the same iraqi prison, as McNab was in. In a Ryan book, called Man tegen Man (don't know the english title, i'm sorry), he (the main character) meets up with the seal he was in prissoned with in Iraq...
But he never was in the prison. It's very anoying because Ryan is mising up two diffirent stories in to one. :(

Maybe this other book wasn't based on Bravo Two Zero? I haven'y read anything where SEALS were in contact with B20. :-?
Also I was under the impression that Ryan's name was his real name, and that McNab concealed his name and identity because of threats on his life, whereas Ryan hasn't got the same stick as McNab in that respect.

Mack,

I think you may find "hard, factual" evidence difficult to come by ... most info is based on someone or other's personal experience/view & is therefore rather subjective & of course ... HMG/MoD have yet to publish anything !

You could try websearches on keywords like ... Desert Storm,SAS,De La Billiere,Scud,Scud hunting etc ... I'm sure you get the idea.

Good luck with the research.

We covered this subject when Asher’s` TV prog came out last year. The one thing that jumped out at me was how much our two heroes must have colluded. In their respective books, they both slag each other off and yet they tell very similar tales. Ryan’s escape didn’t need embellishing; it was quite a feat in itself. Ryan uses his real name and has no objection to his image being published. It’s on most pages of a SAS fitness book on sale down here. The recent SAS soap "Who Gives A Shite" with thingy from Eastenders had Ryan playing the bus driver in a bank hostage drama. The comments from the Sgt Major at the close of Asher’s prog tell the tale.

H.M.G. has seen to it that we can`t read the book in U.K. If it isn`t on the net by the time I get to Oz, then expect significant extracts via your e-mail, not from myself you understand.

So, got the book, wozit say, come on spill ze beans... :x

Just finished this book and I think that Dingers silence speaks volumes. I belueve he is still serving which could also explain why. It seems to me that Mcnab tried to cover up his balls up with some inspired contacts. Now it just makes him look a complete twat!!!
Shame really 'cos as a work of fiction it was a goodish read.

The reason for McNab concealing his identity is because he has had several death threats because of his line of duty. Chris ryan however ( i believe) is in the US working for a computer game company directing them on realism in military games. I cannot comment on the others that have been mentioned thou.

Ryan has been in Britain recently, don't tell me you didn't watch SAS: Ultimate force? ;) And considering he did actually ponce around on screen in one episode, I'm wondering if it's just his ego (maybe he tried blurring his face, but when he told everyone about his SF exploits no-one believed him so he got all upset :) ).
