'Forced Out' a book worth a read
Got my copy today and am nearly half way through (hey, I can relax, it's my birthday
) and i've got to say it's a really impressive book. It really brings home the mental determination and physical strength needed to earn that green beret...just having to read about the long exercise leading into the Commando tests was enough to give me an injury
Two Points:
1) Further to my 'FPGRM?' enquiry in the General Forum, you note that a couple of recruits were 'unlucky' to be passed into Commaccio group. Cleared that up then.
2) You give credence to shin splints as an injury rather than a psychological condition
I'm just being silly, bit of a carry-on from another thread about the recent onslaught of shin-splints in the Joining Forum.
It's been a gripping read so far, well done!

Simon
Just finished 'Forced Out', and looking forward to reading the sequel, 'Forced to do the Charity 30 Miler'!
Thoroughly enjoyed your book, and when you were deciding to leave the Corps I do believe I was shouting, 'Don't do it'!
'Fire into pan the frying of out the', springs to mind.
Great yarn and recommended to all.

the balls in your court now,

Wully is on jolly hollyers and won't be at the 30 miler, so he sent me his copy of Foced Out and asked me to 'get it signed'. Well I've signed it and sent it back to him by return post. There's service.

You should talk to somebody who gives a f**k.

I've just received the March/April edition of the Globe and Laurel and there is a review of 'Forced Out' by someone with the initials, CJM
Extracts are as follows:
'I found the title of Simon Bywater's book to be a little perplexing. As we follow his three short lived careers, initially in the Royal Marines, followed by the Greater Manchester Police and finally the Cambridgeshire Constabulary, the common thread of this tale is not 'forced out', but 'walked out'.'
'I'm sure the chronicling of his life in a literary format has been extremely beneficial on his road to final recovery. However, the benefit to be gained by the reader is less easy to determine.'
Well I enjoyed it!

Heres a qoute from an email sent to me from somebody who is trying to help PTSD sufferers nationally?
"Apparently the good old RM are now pioneering a Stress Trauma Project (not heard of in my day) and one of the speakers is a Captain Cameron Marsh who is going to tell us all about it."
I wonder could it be the same person who you and me both know Black Rat?
Lets hope he understands how sufferes tick? especially form this latest conflict?
I look forward to reading this piece
Thanks Mr Prez

What do you think Si???!!!!
Wonder if it will be the good old 'Pull yourself together routine'!!!!!!!!!
........and they wonder why people leave!
Reading some of the other threads from Loz etc I am suprised as to why we are suprised!!!!!
Whenever the next conflict is, we will be hearing the same things over again!!!!!
And no doubt, though the lads come back fit and well, time will tell what lasting damage has been done!

)
