I know some people get "offered" the chance to join the navy instead of the marines but its not compulsory (as far as im aware).
If you are not mentally or physically good enough for the corps then i dont think they would ship you off to the navy, their not that desperate :)

Maybe someone else can explain more.

PS-where did you hear that anyway?

Come on Matt!! Failing is not an option! Stop being so pesimistic. and say "I'm gonna pass, and be best recruit at the same time!" We know you don't want to be in the Navy, so get to it, and make sure you're not heading that route! :)
There are 3 kinds of people: those who can count & those who can't.

I think you're allowed 2 (or poss 3) attempts at prmc. I guess if you've used up your last chance the trg team may suggest you join the Navy instead. As the Corps is part of the RN it would make sense for them to point you in that direction rather then the army.

Its not compulsory though - taking the Queens shilling finished a long time ago.

three attempts is tho most you can have as far as I'm aware, but you should also note if you do really badly on a prmc then this will not be the case. A guy from my afco was on his second prmc at the same time as I was on my first, and he only got to level 9 on the bleep test, which meant he failed there and then. I went to my afco the other day to get a date for entry and found out he wasn't getting to try again.
