Don`t worry mate, standard PLCE webbing IS issued. However Gucchi webbing gear such as chest rigs, assault vests, etc , don`t get issued. I`m not sure if Royal will let you wear your own personal kit, although I did see one Marine on the news wearing a Assault vest. Personaly, I`ve got one (for the TA) through this is less through necesity, more because I`m a absolute kit sniffer. :D

Years ago, while in the Cadets, I met a young lady who had a DPM thong.

wilson, don`t know about the floss type of "G" string, but some of the wrens i`ve met used to go to Grimsby docks for their stockings, old trawler nets

I saw lass in the daily star the other day with DPM thong on. yum yum.
Bet she has lots of kit sniffers.

On a serious note
If only I had business up n running,I could have taken every penny off you!

At first you use issue kit, after a while (maybe week 12 maybe later) you are allowed buffalo jackets/flasks/gore-tex socks/thermals(maybe)/cookers/ortileb bags.

After training a few lads do buy

non issue boots
hippo pad (foam padding for webbing)
thermals (inc HH)
t-shirts (thermalite etc)
jackets (either DPM Combat ones or buffalo/snugpak for under it)
sleeping bags
bivvi's (rare)
socks(not so rare!)
gloves( sealskinz or merkalon ones)
hats
cookers
bergen (rare but the Berghaus munro is meant to be excellent)
daysacks (these issued sometimes I think but not the gucci ones)
chest rigs/assault vests (not that common as mucho dear)
multi-tools
LED torches
Hydration systems ( think these have been issued in gulf though)

To be honest you don't that much really! Decent pair of boots (£100-125 but will last, if you are really lucky you can track em down surplus) ,jacket (65-85 quid),socks( £8 for double skin 1000 mile combat or £25 for double skin seal-skinz), gas stove(15-30) and a torch(maybe 15 for a mag or pay more for a much better LED) will do. The hydration systems must make yomps a lot less dehydrating (£15 - 30). Maybe add a multi-tool but cheapo would do. (£60 for a great gerber, 15 for a cheapo)

Total maybe £300, sleeping bag and bergen would add a lot though!

Not a sniffer, just its my business, or will be in a while!

I've got another idea... according to the RM material, you get a long weekend leave at the end of foundation, week three. So would it not be best to just take the bare essentials (and maybe some small things like insoles and socks) and so come week four, you can have brought any extra gear which you are allowed, without taking/buying it first and then being dissappointed? I'm sure even if you're allowed everything, if you can't put up with three weeks of grotty boots then you'll have trouble anyway :).

i think you'll find that the kit you're expected to buy will be things that the training team dictate - seceturs, flasks, para cord etc. it won't be anything big like chest rigs, assult vests etc - possibly a daysac. but this stuff will stay with you long after CTC - so if you get 'advised' by the trg team to buy some kit - buy it and buy the stuff they 'advise' as they have it themselves - it will make your time in the field much more pleasant.
