Shin Splints

Post by The JaCkAl »

 I hate the things with a vengiance. I get them and they can be seriously painfull. I've just invested in a good pair of running shoes and have started running on softer surfaces and doing weights and various leg stretches. And so far so good.

It can be down to running technique ( heavey footed running ), and it can be down to footwair and the surfaces you run on. Shin splints are basically when your muscles in your legs absorb shock from continuous impacts (e.g running, skipping) and start to tighten up. After a while your leg muscles will stop absorbing the imacts and your bones starts to feal the brunt of the continuous pounding. After a while your bones will start to fracture microscopically. When this accures the person experiencing them will need to let them heal for at least 2 months. A f#*king B*stard if your half way through selection. :x

Bearing in mind Jackals piece on shin splints read the following and think on. It's worth waiting until you get into training with the Corps before trying to yomp or even run with back packs and heavy weights.
Something to make Andy O'Pray smile. Two of 42s HW rates were interviewed at 1800 on Sky. Asked to describe what was on his pack Skin1 pointed out the 32kg machine gun which can apparently waz anything up to 2.5k! Spare barrel, 16kg, 200 rounds, lottsa weight, spare ammo more weight, kit, food and water, plus hard hat and fluffy slippers. Total guesstimate by young sprog 160lb! He then said something like, "But that's why we're heavy weapons." Always one isn't there.
The interviewer poked his hairy mike at Skin2 who simply pointed at the 5/6 milan tubes strapped to the outside of his bergen and started chatting, which is when the mike fizzled away and we returned to dolly bird in the studio. How much does a Milan refill weigh?
You should talk to somebody who gives a f**k.

Shin splints

Post by The JaCkAl »

I've just had an interesting chat with a Yanky scientist who advised me to take Calcium Ascorbate tablets for shin splints. You can buy them from health food shops and there supposed to stop shin splints in there tracks. I'm off out tomorrow morning to purchase some. (Always read the packet) I'll try anything to stop the agony of the f*cking things. Worth a try, if you can get hold of them in health shops it can't cause any damage. this bloke knows his sh*t as well so it can't hurt (accept for £4 max). I thought I'd share my findings

I think that's one of the arthritis relieving drugs. Places like Holland and Barrett sell it, or Boots.

As far as I know Shin splints are not associated with the bones, rather the muscles and tendons

Calcium wont be of much use

Calcium Ascorbate is a compound of calcium and vitamin C. I believe the rationale behind using it help prevent/heal shin splints is that it help's in strenghtning and repairing the bone. TheCount is right in that splints are predominantly related to muscle problems, but if you have shin splints long enough, it starts to splinter the bone into tiny fragments, which then develop into stress fractures. This is where the Calcium Ascorbate comes in, by helping with the healing of the bone.

I've not tried it myself, I'm going to wait to see what my consultant says. Also, Calcium Ascorbate is the best way to ingest these chemicals as it's very light on the stomach.
