Quite incredible, Would the Founding Fathers of the United States of America be rolling in their graves?

The American statment that 'If you Aint with us you' our enemy' has seriously changed my views about the USA, when I read that, I wondered what ever happened to the first rule of democracy FREE SPEACH.
It was aimed at France, I do not subscribe to their views, however I do subscribe to thier right to state thier beliefs, no matter how wrong I feel they are. That Elmer is democracy..... I believe that you have long forgotten that right.....( The URL on this thread is just a minute indication of this problem)

I watched a movie the other night, based on a true story. It involved the treatment of African Americans living in the Southern states in 1948. One should ask these African Americans who lived through that time about American democracy.

It would appear that America discovered democracy a short 50 years ago and now they want to instill this recent discovery on the rest of the world.

Aye - Andy. :o :o :o

Well I guess everyone who has visited the states for a period of time realises that the concept of democracy over there is just bullsh*t.

What amazed me was that they honestly think they are open and liberated but when you start talking about subjects not normally discussed they get all fidgety and embarrassed - and they reckon the british are reserved!

I guess they confuse loudmouthed arrogant behaviour with open minded democracy.

If you want to see democracy in action go to a shopping mall in America, if you happen to mutter "God damn trolley won't work" people will treat you like Beelzebub on Cocaine! I can still retain my views officer!

Land of the er, and home of the er, something, anyway.
Biggest target for British hollidaymakers? Florida. You will not be served food by a negro anywhere in Florida. Or drink. Or clothes. In fact, you have to look hard to see one.
Cleaning the toilets or fishing off the ends of bridges in the Keys is about it. Have a nice day. now, missing you allready.
Like, supporting the Jews against those dreadfull Palestinians is democratic?
Er, well, not for the Palestians, obviously.

America and democracy!!!!!! Now theres a laugh!

Try asking African americans in the South, can still recall the apartheid they had!

Saw a good documentry last few weeks on Paul Robeson, his story no doubt similar to hundreds of others if not thousands.

Any one else getting worried about the yanks??? Try visiting Morwenstow tracking station outside of Bude and see what a friendly welcome awaits you!

God bless America..........and God help us all!!!!!!!

ps got some goodies for the red cross parcel today! Newsagent bunged me some "Mags for the lads", will need to read them for suitabillity!

Plus the land of "Support the Dictator". Remember the CIA plot to oust the democratically elected president of Chile and install Pinochet? Plus a fair number of other Central American coups to install their preferred "head of state" i.e. dictators.

Then (just to be boring) there was that nice dictator Saddam Hussein. Iran war over, oops!
And, of course, that all round good-egg, CIA trained, Mr Osama Bin Laden fighting those naughty Russians in Afghanistan. Exit Russians. Bye Bye good egg, hello fiendish terrorist.

p.s. Does the US intelligence agencies (OK - contradiction in terms) believe this Forum is the cyber equivalent of the T-Shirt??? Is it safe to visit my friends over there ever again? Will I be intercepted by the thought police at Customs Control??

One thing that news site doesn't mention is that the the mall had signs posting saying that the wearing of clothing which could cause a disturbance would be grounds for removal. The mall had been the location for protests less than three months ago.

Further, the mall itself is a private property, the owners (or their agents) can refuse access to whomever they choose. It is not a public place as such. The man was asked to remove the t-shirt or leave the mall. He refused to comply with either request, forcing the mall security to call the police.

The arrest record (http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/crossgates1.html) shows that he and his son had been stopping other mall patrons who then complained to security.

It's not quite as simple as "Disagree with the State and be punished." A mall run by liberals could force someone to remove an anti-Saddam shirt or leave their premises as well. It's simple property rights.

Some of the comments posted above reminded me of one of my favourite pieces of graffitti: Seen on a wall in Limassol (Cyprus) shortly after the Turks had invaded the island in 1974... The Yanks had resolutely refused to stand up for the democratic rights of the Greek Cypriots in the UN:

STATUE OF LIBERTY, WHAT'S A NICE GIRL LIKE YOU DOING IN A PLACE LIKE THAT??

Two asides, Didn't the French give the statue of Liberty to the Yanks, and more importantly, yes in 1974 the Keo Brewery was destroyed!

Regards,

Dave B.
