Wully , I seem to remember a simular situation happening in Auckland NZ memories are made of this
Hear from you soon Allan

Hermes, Narvik to Gus end of Clockwork, '79, slightly upsydownsy sea state. We were all locked 'indoors' which was a relief; when we went up to the flight deck approx 23 out of 30 landies had been crushed to the deck by the chacons with all the weapons and equipment, which had then gone over the side. The right rear, (Starboard Quarter) LCVP was also missing, with one of it's davits
I had a pit up port side near the front, the anchor had about 10 mm of movement and used every mm every chuffing wave. Things were made very interesting when the sea water stopcock in the POs heads was blasted into the roof by the back pressure caused by an enormous goffer. Paddle anyone?

It was funny how everyone seemed to have their own ghetto blaster on that trip.

That bit about lost kit reminds me of the time when 40 Cdo were being flown ashore.....forget where, but it was hot and dusty. When they were flying the TQ of A coy's trailer ashore it started swinging, so the pilot cut it loose, dropped in the oggin, never to be seen again. The TQ duly sent in his stores manifest and waited for the goodies to arrive. After returning to Seaton the QM summoned him to the parade ground with these words...
"Colours, we've got a trailer and all the kit you lost down on the parade ground, I'd like you to come and load it in for us."
...... Whoops!!!

Dave B

Sitting in the back of a Wessy being moved at night somewhere in Turkey(?) with 41 and the packs were stacked in the doorway as per usual, each bloke had a wooden toggle on the strap so he could identify his kit in the dark. Everybody cosy and cushy when suddenly the top bergen rolled doorwards and descended thousands of feet into darkest Turkmanland. Horror struck stick, except for the boss, Lt Townsend, former signaller Corp, who curled up laughing. Into the LZ, leap out grab a bergen from the pile which had been kicked out by the loadie and run away when the wessy left. In the dark various rumblings of discontent until, yes you've guessed it, Lt T hissed "Which one of you bastards has my pack?" Then we fell over giggling. He had an extremely uncomfortable exercise, no slug, no nicks, no socks etc.
