Im sure most of you have probably at some stage saw the oldish film Heartbreak Ridge. I think its a classic film which shows the USMC , lol sorry about that something funny came into my head... getting put through hell by Clint Eastwood. He has made some good films. Behind enemy lines was another great film. So too, Pearl Harbour.Top gun is one of my favourite films but it isnt in the same league.A film out not so long ago that i thought was a well made film, Hart's War, although this film wasnt given its full credit. Cant really think of any other good films such like. Any Suggestions?

do the US people think the stuff on them films (you know the ones i mean) are historicly correct?

I would have to say Platoon is my favorite. I guess I connect with it better b/c my father fought in Vietnam.

Chris- nobody goes to the movies here for a history lesson, we go to be entertained. Nobody in America particularly likes the Hollyweird types, for largely the same reason's you guys across the pond don't. So for futer reference it's a little offensive to put your average Joe in the same sentence with the Hollyweird people.

... those are fightin' words where I come from. If you ever skip on over to the States, my advice to you would to be very careful about what words you surround "Pearl Harbor" with. You might end up on the wrong side of somebody who doesn't understand you just didn't like the movie.

Thing is USARMY how do you think it makes us Brits feel when we have to put up with that hollywood sh*te that doesn't just alter history a bit but totally rewrites it - i'm thinking of the film about the us sub (refused to watch it) that intercepted and captured the enigma machine during WW2.

Thing is it was based on a true story undertaken by a british sub and crew. And you can't just pass it off as that 'hollyweird' thing. Films are part of the US culture and cultural influences are instrumental in societies viewpoint. After that film was released I actually had americans telling me how they (US) had helped the Brits win the war by capturing the enigma machine, how the f*ck would that make you feel?

Its one thing to rewrite anothers countries history for you own personal gain but don't insult us by feigning surprise when everybody is pissed off with you.

I think you gents may find that USArmy is talking about the reverence the memorial in Pearl Harbour retains (USS Arizona). It's a very sombering site and holds many horrors for Americans, especially the survivors.

"Hollywierdness" seems to be at its highest pointin Vietnam films, we always see the Americans blowing the Vietcon to hell, every battle is won by the Americans, if that was the case, how the hell did they lose??? Isn't about time we saw Vietnamese victories?

Okay, I loved the film "enemy at the gates" (I think thats what its called, its about snipers)
"Black Hawk Down" - yeah I know
"sink the Bismark!" - so what if its black and white?
"A Bridge to far" - ditto

Rabby- I'll give it to you straight up. The reason why all the films show the United States Military blowing the crap out of the VC or NVA in the movies is because, that's the truth, in ten years the United States never lost a major encounter or battle. This is supported by both sides. We "lost" the war because of the way the war was managed. I don't want to go into detail about this but I suggest any one who is interested to read, "We were Soldiers Once and Young" by LG Hal Moore, "About Face" by Col. David Hackworth or "The Cat from Hue: A Vietnam War Story" by John Laurence.

Gash-Hand, I sympathize completely, U-571, was a big slap in the face not doubt. I suggest you guys do what we do when Hollyweird screws it up. Boycott the film and the futer films of the actors and director. It takes a while but they get the message.

I also really like Midway, Heartbreak Ridge, The Longest Day and The Thin Red Line. We were Soldiers and Black Hawk Down, which were fantasic books, were border line offensive. Hollyweird never seems to get that whole "left out to dry" thing.
