You're right Owdun. My first foreign commission was eighteen months in the Far East on HMS Newfoundland. What a tour and the places visited modern Royals only dream about :D

I prefer the term non-serving Royal, rather than Ex. There's no such creature as an Ex Booty.

I'm with Rob on this one, Royal Marines are serving or non-serving if we believe in Once a Marine, Always a Marine we can't very well be ex-marines can we, nor, with respect, can we be former marines. We are still marines `just resting' as the AcTOrs have it.
