Passed my PRMRC

Post by HP »

Hi. I have passed my Royal Marines Reserve PRC. It was a long hard weekend but I suceeded. At the end when I was told my individual result I was informed that I had just met the required standard in each field.

Basically the Lieutenant told me that I had scraped through by the skin off my teeth. I was aware that I was not performing greatly during the weekend. I now have my induction weekend coming up.

Does anyone have any comments advice? Should I sit it out and get fitter try again next year when I will be better able to cope with the training which we all know is much harder than the PRMC. I don't want to continue with the training if I am gonna be unable to keep up with the other recruits.

Thanks for the replies. My gym tests were 40 Press ups(was suffering from a sprained wrist) 59 sit ups and 36 burpees. My scores were not good and I think one of the reasons is I trained badly. I was ill prepared for the intensity of the whole thing. We did the gym tests in that order and by the time you are on your burpees your really digging in. The 20 minute intense warm up beforehand was exactly what I called it - an intense warm up.

We then went outside and did the 5x60 metre runs. I cannot remember my score for this but I remember I was under a minute. This really knocks the wind out of you. We then ran down to the monkey bars and did our pull ups. I acheived 11 and was very happy with that because I struggled in training on this aspect.

The best advice I can offer you(as somebody that was truly taken to their physical limits during the PRC) is train with intensity. We were not allowed to stop running from the start of the warm up right through to the end of the 3miler(which you do after the gym tests and sprints. That meant running on the spot when waiting for the next test.

PS.This must have been said a thousand times but I am gonna say it again for anyone PRC POC or PRMRCing in the future - practice your press ups so that you go right down and touch the floor with your chest! Thats the way you have to do them!

Well done mate, go and have a crack, otherwise you'll never know will you!
The course is designed to take everybody from a base standard, building you up right through to the end. So all you have to do is work your balls off and show the training team that you are reflecting their commitment to you.
You should talk to somebody who gives a f**k.

Congratulations mate.
Stick at it and don't doubt yourself.
And use your spare time to carry on training.

Thanks for all the encouragement and comments. I am going to go for it because I will take great pride and feeling of acheivement in just wearing the blue recruit beret with the globe and laurel. I'm a firm believer in one step at a time! Maybe I could make it a green beret some day.

Are the requirements higher on the reserve course than they are on the active duty one?

As far as im aware all training and courses remain the same.
The only difference is the rest periods.

Just wondering because it sounded like it followed a slightly different format than the PRMC. No bleep test for one thing, and 11 pullups, while the PRMC has 6 listed as the max.

Also, his numbers are very similar to a few of the more recent PRMC graduates like Ross, who didn't mention that he just scraped by - though it's certainly possible.

So if i went on the POC and got the scores he got on his Reserve selection, i would possibly get in??

I read his thread and felt like packing training in because i assumed the POC would be monstrously harder than Reserve selection and if 44 push-ups, 59 sit-ups and 11 pull-ups was only good enough to scrape in to the Reserves, im in a lot of trouble!!

dan you cant want in very much. Of course the POC is going to be alot harder than the reserve. You will be some peoples officer you need to be a cut above the rest. Keep your head down and dig out.
Good luck
