Great to see your son wants to teach history Loz... sad to say thats what it is now. It was good to remember over the weekend though seemed to lessen the burden.
We had a great re-union in Gosport over the weekend and it was great to see so many kids out watching.
Just a pity the turn out was such a poor show with Maggie and Sir Rex there as well I doubt they will be around for the 25th though I hope I am wrong.
Just to say if you were there you will know what a great weekend it was and If you wern't then you really missed out!!!!!

Go on Gosport

Post by Mutley »

What a great weekend in Gosport.

Notwithstanding, the Cocked Hat had the worlds smallest screen, and only 2 bar staff for the game on Saturday. I understand a lot of families walked away because they didn't let kids into the bar. Good management, Not.

But everything else was A1. My personal thanks to all the volunteers, the artistes, the people of Gosport, and the Con club

There were about 180 veterans on parade, not including the many still serving matelots who almost stayed in step.

It took a bit of getting use to seeing Jenny with Guns. But I shall resist the temptation to comment on the new drill movement of 'cuddling' the SA80.

A good shout, no an EXCELLENT shout - :drinking:
just don't hail a cab in Gosport!!!! :silly:

My lad was literally in tears at 14.30 on Sunday afternoon and fast asleep in the back of the car by 1500:

Some of his comments:
"Jim Davison just said ####, does that mean I have to go to bed!"
( about 4p.m.)
"Do all Marines swear?"
"Daddy, dont stand in the middle of the road"
(trying to hail a taxi)
"Daddy, stop fluffing, your making the tent smell"
"can you do my laces up
(whilst marching through Gosport)
"Who is that man Jack you all kept laughing at, on the parade"
"But Daddy, I want to stay here"
(when I said it was time to head for home)
" Yesterday and today are the best days of my life"
And finally this morning:
" Is there another one"
To all that were there, you'll know what a good do it was. But I want to thank all the guys (tri-service) who made it so much easier for my lad to have such a great weekend, too, especially-
The lads who helped smuggle him into the pub and keep him hidden to watch the Football.
The guy who put 50p in the telescope for him.
Taff for telling him I was taking him to McDonalds!
The policeman (former matelot) who let him swamp against his car tyre, (true) cause all the heads were locked.
Thanks.

Trust Taff to drop you in it I bet it was after eleven at night and they were all closed, that would be about right for him.
A great two days, all the gripes coming through already though. I hope people appreciate that one man Smokey Cole with a little help from Jim D put this together and due to low numbers will probably have to shell out £5K for our great day, and hell could you ask for better entertainment?
My daughters, 6 & 4, never stopped and had fun the whole time from 9am when I was putting up marquees through to ni on 11pm. They never came off the bouncy monster of a play area all provided for free, NO CHARGE!
WHAT A GREAT WEEKEND!!!!!
