I've been given two opposing pieces of advice about running training (both by Pongo PTI's). One said that you shouldn't run in the morning or within four hours of waking up. The other said that first thing in the morning is the best time to run as the body's metabolism is firing alone from sleep.
Anyone know who, if either, knows the real score?

in my view there is no good or bad time to run as when you join up you will be running day or night it dosent matter if you vary it your more likely to adapt better to life in the forces.
On the other hand if you want to set a certain time run at both times yourself and see which is better for you.
My best suggestion is do what you feel happy with!

If you find running in the morning stressful, time consuming etc. get yourself a skipping rope and start skipping. I swear by it I have been doing it for the past 4 months and my cv and stamina is excellent as a result.
An article in the Sunday Times seconded what ive long suspected. A 10 min skipping session = same cv workout as 45 min run, builds bone mass in lower legs, ankles (prevents injury) and improves overall body tone.
5 min Skipping is also an excellent warm-up before your stretching and then running.

Cheers for the advice. I used to run in the mornings before because it fits in best with my schedule. I stopped once I was told that it was bad for me. But after some more hunting for the truth I found out from more people that it's not actually that bad so I've started again.
faddius, I'll take your advice about the skipping. Sounds good. I'll get some ropes this weekend.
