Para Regt. Specializations

Post by MisterB »

As a Para can you specialize in a trade, such as bomb disposal or driving or is that left to the RE?

Pretty much left to other regiments. But you can do these trades and be Parachutist qualified.
There is no fear, there is only the force.

Do or do not, there is no try.

According to the Para Reg Info pack Specialist roles are:
- Sniper
- Mortar Crewman
- Machine Gunner
- Anti-Tank Missile Man
- Reconnaissance Platoon
- Assault Engineers
- Signaller
- Combat Medical Technician
- Regimental Policeman
- Storeman
- Intelligence Section
- Driver
- Other (Red Devils, SFSG, Para PTI etc)

To what extent you will be doing these jobs I can't say so perhaps a serving Para can tell you in his experience what the jobs are like etc.

Many of the above roles are taken up by those who have spent a bit of time as a rifleman. You need to settle into the Regiment first of all before you start getting many of these other jobs

Spot on. If not all, in fact. A lot of those jobs are more cushy posts that guys do after grafting for a few years as a rifleman. Everyone is a rifleman first anyway.
