It's pretty easy to fix this.........

Post by Hostage_Negotiator »

Seems apart from people taking pops at each other this place has been pretty dead for months now and we all know exactly who is to blame for this.......

ALL OF US !

Yes each and every one of us....how much apathy is on display here? We all whine about how dead, boring or crap it is but do we do anything about it.....no!

If everybody were to take a minute out of their day to actually post a new thread or add to an existing one this place would soon be the thriving forum we all knew and loved........or we can all just rest secure in our apathy and let it go under! I'm sure most of us remember a time when you'd log on and it would take up to an hour to catch up with all the posts..well if we all make a small effort I believe it could be like that again and then maybe some of the greats that were on here would return and the youngsters wanting to learn and aspiring to walk in the boots of those who serve and have served would rally to this place as the premier military forum it once was!

So it's easy folks...put a bit of effort in or sit back, watch it go under under whilst monking about how dead it is on here! Whether you're a Mod or a member we all have a role so how's about we start stepping up?

Oh dear....10 views and 01 response in support, quite sad really when at least 02 of those views were by Mods!

Come on guys lead by example!

H_N,
I was about post on here and MF&T that I would make no further comments on these issues, as it appears to some that:

I'm just being bitter - not true, but I can see why some might think that.
I'm just having a pop at some mods - not true, but I can see why some might think that.
I'm going over and over old ground - True, but I believe it was justified.
Very few appear to understand my POV - I can't really influence how people choose to view my posts. I have explained many times about them being lighthearted, not malicious etc.

It appears to me that you're post is open, honest, inward looking and incisive. Just like this one:

viewtopic.php?p=209864&highlight=#209864

Being open and honest is what we did for years in HM Armed Forces. After a job we always asked ourselves, no matter what had happened, "If we had to do it again, would we change anything, if so, what would that be?". Inviting self analysis and crticism from others.

I think this sort of approach is core to the smooth running of a discussion forum, otherwise it becomes a place where some speak and everyone else agrees or keeps their thoughts to themselves.

2 + 2 = 5.

Regards
RC

Stinky,
I read your SITREP and was quite amused by it, but shamefully didn't comment.
I will sort that out ASAP.

2 + 2 = 5,no wonder you became a farking PW !!.
The apathy thing seems to run in cycles,I can remember a big drip sesh on here (2003 I think) on the same subject.
I was trying along with Mike to gee things up a bit by sending PMs to those who hadn't posted for a while to try and get them back onboard.
I got X back on for a couple of post, but negative vibes (some from the old and bold who should have known better) soon pissed him off and thats the last time we saw him,a pity really.
But this nause that has been going on for a couple of months is a new thing, don't how to get past it,I suppose it will work its course in due time and we will lose or gain a couple of members.
I am guilty of not posting in reply to some questions and threads posted on here, sometimes I read a question and think I will leave it to one of the more current members (I've been out 25 years),and it doesn't get answered and that thread just dies a death.
Don't know what the answer is,maybe just go back to inter service piss taking and banter and take it from there?.

I don't think we can expect people to reply to every single post, that's unrealistic, and would be dreadful!
We need people to post on the topics they know about, answer the questions they can answer, and accept that other people have opinions which differ from their own.

Or you can have freedom.

I used to love coming on here and reading all the banter from the old and bold, not to mention learning a few things.
As you can see I have been on here a couple of years now and don't post that much even though I come on and read through the threads almost every day.
So maybe I should try a bit harder to add from time to time.

Hypers' I'm not suggesting that people should post on every thread, as you say that would be unrealistic.
Yes it would be also be beneficial for people to have some knowledge on a subject if they intend to post but I think you'll find thats never stopped most on here!
As for opinions again you are correct, we all have them and are entitled to them but unless you post them how can people be aware of them?
I'm tempted to go and start a thread a thread about large choppers to see if I can get your juices flowing now!!

Helicopters? Who was talking about helicopters?

I was getting quite excited thinking we were about to discuss implements for cutting wood!
