Reedy -

Join the Harriers - that's where I started.....

Saltwell Harriers , in Gateshead .....

But Gosforth had a canny club as well - your side of the river perhaps ?

Best training there is - cross country when you can - and running past
the pubs when you can't - road running in Gateshead was 'interesting'
some asphalt, some cobbles and always wet..... just what you need -

Good luck with it.

When I did my Pre - Joining test for the RAF I had never run on a treadmill, I just explained this to the gym instructor and he gave me a little time to adapt to it. So don't waist your money joining a gym. It really don't take time to get used to it.
1.5 Miles = 06.59
3.0 Miles = 14.06
5.0 Miles = 26.48
6.0 Miles = 32.39
10 Miles = 56.07
13.1 Miles = 1.17.35
Bleep Test = 15.6

Aye mate was thinking of that but it's a little out of the way for me. Used to run and jump for Gateshead Harriers a while back but don't now as i'm working away at the minute doing shifts - which also cocks up my training regime alot.

Moving back to Wallsend, Newcastle hopefully at the end of this week. You know the 'Rising Sun Hill'? Anyway, a big hill and tracks to run about on, so should be good fun.

Reedy - Do I know the Rising Sun hill ? ..... Don't I though ....

Gateshead Harriers ? Ah well - I suppose that membership had dabbed off
in Saltwell by the time you wanted to run .....

I did mine before Gateshead Stadium was built - but with Brendan Foster,
John Anderson and some other canny lads..... middle fifties - nineteen
fifties..... :D

We were all doing about the four twenty to thirty mark when Roger
Bannister went and broke the four minutes with Chris Brasher et al.
Diane Leather took the FIVE minute mile then as well..... (Gosforth).

Wallsend will do - find a club and get stuck in - you're not going to marry
the club - just run when you can.......

Wallsend to Carlisle is canny - a bit of everything there - only about sixty
miles from Newcastle (one way) you could catch a train back....
Get stuck in -

Sounds like a plan mate, coming back home to Newcastle for certain tomorrow so will be starting my training again monday. Will give you a shout when I get into my routine etc. I also won't have access to internet when I'm back home straight away will have to get it set up again asap.

As for the gym, not sure what the crack is, not sure which one to go to, would have to be local around the wallsend area I guess, can you reccomend some?
