Yes. Dont become too overwhelmed by it, there are better books out there...books about the Reg. Try 3 Para by Patrick Bishop if you've not read it already.

Nevertheless a proud moment for the PWRR im sure.

There was no need for that Paratrooper01. That was a hell of a tour the PWRR had in Iraq. Using AKs off dead Iraq's and having to fix Bayonets because your out of Ammo should not be taken lightly.
There are loads of bopks on the Paras and RMs and not alot about the rest. And Ive read 3 PARA because I was on the same tour. Its a good book, some credit given to Patrols when it was us but never let the truth get in the way of a good read hey.

Of course. Its one of the hardest courses in the army and you have to be a pretty damn good soldier to pass. A mega job to have in a para battalion if you can get it.

Perhaps try reading some para reg books about the Falklands. The Aldershot days of 1970's para reg was very different to things now as im sure people like tab and the other ex-reg blokes will tell you, but its part of our history. i think it helped give the reg the reputation of being such aggressive, hard fighting soldiers. For Queen and Country by Nigel Ely is a book that gave me alot of inspiration.

It was mostly aimed at the Beharry incident, which i dont really want to bring up again as its probably been done to death, but its just the way i feel about it; what he did was brave but i disagree with the way he was treated like a celebrity.

You must agree with the whole unit identity thing which makes the British army who it is? It is a part of para reg whether people like it or not and its taught from day 1. Some people take it more seriously than others but we all still think we are the best. liam, enjoy the book but know that there are plenty of other books out there specifically about the regiment you want to be a part of.

Also try "Spearhead Assault" by John Geddes, that was a book I enjoyed myself, about the Falklands. Going through 3 Para for a second time at the moment aswell.

I read the book last month. Very good book I thought. especially that at the same time (the beginning of the book) I was there only ?00 miles to the south enjoying our own poolside bar. and talking about what if in al Kidhr..
