I did back you up,maybe to cryptic for you,40 = 6, 41 used to be 7,then it jumps to 8 and 9,can't remember 3Cdo Bde etc.
Now then JR did they have these when 43 was on the go and was that an 8 then?.

PS Unit numbers were also painted on the bottom of your kit/seamans bag,along with a different colour for each company,thought I would chuck that in just to add to the confusion,when I was in 41 Cdo and in E Coy the bottom of my kitbag was light blue with the Tac No7 in the centre Name and Number around the edge.Pussers reasoning for this,when all the kit bags are stacked up you can etc etc.
Can't remember what colour I had to paint it when in B Coy,think A Coy was blue,Artist can you remember?.

I painted the bottom of my kitbag so many times that over time the damn thing wrapped. There I was stood at RAF Lyneham with the kitbags entire contents spread over the deck as the bottom had just dropped out. Was not a happy Hector as me Personel stuff was there for everyone to see. Arrr......Goodtime Suzie me blow up doll with hilarious helium attachment. They don't make em like Suzie anymore tha knows!

Shoulders, Alfa was light blue wiff a Saint logo on it.

Used to spend days painting unit tac signs on FFR's and other stuff. Bdes was the number one.

Once whilst in HQ & Sigs. Me and Al Mcdonald got bored and knowing full well that there was no more green paint left painted our FFR black all over, then things got a tad silly. We wacked the Tac signs on but twice the normal size, got some yellow and red paint and did a noice ickle flame motiff down both sides of the rover, the radio cage got a noice lick of yellow paint just to finish it off. Then we decided to turn the wheels about face so that they stuck out and extra six inches on both sides. Left the canvas off and named it THE WASP and then took it for a spin into Guz. We had in fact taken the FFR away from prying eyes to the bottom of the longroom where the Corps kept it's yachts as we knew the guy who ran the place and knew full well that he would not bubble us to the bosses as he was a right good egg.

Jock Gillies our Section sgt went totally apeshit when he found out via the RMP's who were informed by the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary of our excursion down Royal Parade wearing Pith Helmets, Ski goggles, KD shorts, rough lovat jackets and pussers black wellington boots driving a vehicle deemed to be totally unsafe for use on the public highway.

The OC was very nice about it and only did us for £75 a piece for bringing the Corps into disrepute. As it was we had decided to head for the Barbican shouting out to confused civvies "Excuse me but have your seen Batman and Robin?" when the coppers pulled us over near the big Nat West Bank. To be fair the Cops had a real problem keeping straight faces when they clocked what we were wearing.

WO1 (S) Nutty Edwards also punished us by making us paint the entire floor of the Longroom sigs shed using one inch paint brushes a nice fetching red lead colour. Mind you JJ Devitt our det Cpl thought he got the worst punishment of all. Having Me and Al as his crew on TARBLAN.
