New guy here

Post by Tempest UK »

Hello all,

This seems to be the place for introductions, so here we go.

I'm currently at the ripe old age of 18 and living the glamorous student life at university. I'm in my first year, meaning two more to go before I can put my plans of joining the Army into action. Can't wait to get into it really. I've been looking at possible civilian jobs but nothing catches my eye, so I always find myself drawn back to the armed forces. I've been lurking around the forums for quite a while now, trying to take in as much as possible so I don't look like too much of an idiot when I start posting. Can't promise much there, though

At the moment I'm looking at an officer role in the Royal Artillery, but it's still early days so I might change my mind.

Any words of wisdom are appreciated :)

That is all :)

Regards,
Adam

Hey Adam.

I spent 7 years with the arty and i think it will be quit interesting in the future.
The arty will take over more and more precisionstrikes in the future in my opinion.
GMLRS, Excalibur etc. is the way to go... :D

You`re right there Aitch. Still a need for big guns though mate, with ever-increasing accuracy and precision strike.
Welcome aboard Adam, what course are you doing? Have you looked at UOTC or whatever it`s called these days? It`s a good intro and you get paid, plus they may even sponsor you and you know what that means!Free beer tokens :P
Good luck mate

Thanks, I did look at the UOTC but foolishly ended up letting it slip due to not knowing too much about what it involved. Something I now regret, and I seem to remember reading that they only take students who are in their first year, meaning it will be too late for me next year. Curses  Hopefully I'm wrong.

I'm doing Politics and International Relations for my degree.

Right now the biggest problem with the Army is getting my girlfriend to even entertain the idea...

Thanks for the welcome :D

Regards,
Adam

EDIT - searching around pays off once again

"Most people who join are first year undergraduates and tend to be between the ages of 18 –22, but anyone who has at least two years left on their course, aged 18-30 can join."

Hopefully I'll be able to join next year then :D
