Just started this book which was recommended to me earlier today and it's one that I just haven't been able to put down since (apart from while I've been tapping out this on the keyboard) But I've perfected the art of 'reading good book while having crap and sorting paperwork out' it's that good. Anyone else read it?
Written by an ex RN Fleet Clearance Diving Team bod who served during the Falklands and then moved on to deep-sea commercial diving.
If you're ex service personnel, currently serving or have never even been anywhere near the forces you can’t fail to enjoy this extremely funny and exciting book. Tony Groom describes in a simple engaging way the complexities of navy diving, bomb disposal and offshore oil diving industry, laced with a wit and frankness that is both refreshing and a pleasure. (Translated: Loads of squaddie/forces black humour) His personal account of the Falklands Conflict is at times harrowing and is a stark reminder of the brutality of war and of courage in the face of adversity. A funking good read!
(OK I copied and pasted that last paragraph from somewhere else to save time ...... What?! Uni students do that all the time and get degrees for it!)
Get yerself a copy!!

Hi It's me Tony Groom the Author of the book, DIVER. I'm really chuffed you are enjoying it. It's been selling really well, right up to the point we ran out of copies, just before Christmas!
They are back in stock this week, so, if anyone wants a signed copy from me, go to my site. I'll post it next time I write, as a 'New boy' I'm not alowed to post links yet? I'll gladly send them out.
Drop me a line when you're finish it.

Diver by Tony Groom
ISBN 978-1-906266-06-6
Diver is author Tony Groom's personal account of life as a mine clearance diver in the Royal Navy and as a commercial diver in the oil and gas industry. It describes the rigorous training he went through to become a clearance diver and then follows up with entertaining and sometimes horrifying accounts of the things he has experienced during his career. This includes his time spent serving in the Falklands War where he was left to handle unexploded bombs on board ships which were simultaneously under attack by air raids.
As this is the first book I have been asked to review at dive site directory I was a little concerned what to write if I didn't enjoy it, but fortunately I couldn't put it down so I don't have that problem. Humorous and compelling, this book will have you laughing aloud and turning the page in anticipation of what is going to happen next. You have to remind yourself on occasion that this is a description of somebody's life experiences rather than a fictional story. I can really recommend this as an excellent read to anyone and everyone. You don't have to be interested in war history, commercial diving or even a diver to find his book fascinating but if you are a diver it will enable you to comprehend how difficult it must be hunting for mines in limited visibility. Never again will that first leisure dive of the season in murky UK waters seem so difficult!

Hi it's Tony here again. I've only just started the site so is a bit difficult to find. If you put my name and diver in it comes up around page two I think. Or try this below.Sisyphus wrote:TG
