A Heathrow shop assistant who dubbed herself the "Lyrical Terrorist" has became the first Muslim woman in Britain to be found guilty of terrorism offences.
Samina Malik, who worked air-side for WH Smith, posted a series of poems on websites across the internet about killing non-believers, pursuing martyrdom and raising children to be holy fighters.
She was described as a "committed Islamic extremist who supports terrorism and terrorists" and had a library of material for that purpose.
Malik, 23, who was born and brought up in Southall, West London also called herself "Stranger Awaiting Martyrdom" in messages to other extremists on the internet.
She burst into tears in the dock at the Old Bailey as a jury found her guilty of possessing records likely to be used for terrorism by a majority of 10 to one.
Police were alerted after finding an email from her on another person’s computer.
When they raided her home, they found folders on the computer called "Samina’z Stuff" and "Copy of Handbooks" as well as dozens of handwritten notes hidden in the pages of a book and a bracelet which carried the word jihad [holy war].
On a mirror were found the words "Lyrical Terrorist" and on one piece of paper she had written: "The desire within me increases every day to go for martyrdom, the need to go increases second by second."
In her poems she wrote about killing heathens, adding: "Kafirs your time will come soon, and no one will save you from your doom."
Police found a copy of Osama Bin Laden’s Declaration of War and a passage in which she praised the al-Qa’eda leader and added: "We will not let you have any peace. We will show no remorse, no mercy and no regrets"
In one poem, called "Raising Mujahideen [holy fighter] Children," she recommended indoctrinating children from the age of seven, adding: "Show the children videos and pictures of mujahideen and tell them to become strong like them."
Explain how the Mujahideen fear no man - they fear Allah alone, and for his sake they are able, willing and capable to do anything in defence of Islam." Malik joined an extremist organisation called Jihad Way set up to disseminate terrorist propaganda and support al-Qa’eda.
On a website called Hi-5, similar to social networking sites such as Facebook or MySpace, Malik listed her interests as: "Helping the mujahideen [holy fighters] in any way which I can... I am well known as lyrical terrorist."
Under favourite TV shows, it said: "Watching videos by my Muslim brothers in Iraq, yep the beheading ones, watching video messages by Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahri [his deputy] and other videos which show massacres of the kaffirs."
Malik claimed she was only writing poetry for "fame and recognition" and to show off to men she hoped to marry.
In her defence, her lawyers claimed her poetry was no worse than the First World War poetry of Wilfred Owen.
She started writing love poetry while at Villiers High School in Southall, Middlesex and in early 2002 began writing "rap poems" in the style of US rappers Tupac Shakur and 50 Cent, using the name Lyrical Babe.
In 2004 she became more interested in religion and started wearing a hijab, changing her writing name from Lyrical Babe to Lyrical Terrorist because she thought it was "cool."

It's just another indication that Britain is becoming a police state. It's not like she was actually involved in terrorism, it's persecuting people simply because of their views.
You don't actually have to be a Muslim to be annoyed by the fact that 1.2 million people in Iraq have been killed for what turns out to be simply for American economic interests. That's not even counting the 1.5 million between 1991 and 2003 on account of the sanctions which the USA refused to release and Britain was complicit in.
If anyone wants to behead Blair and Bush they certainly have my blessing, it would save an lawful lot of money with a war crimes trial

I'd like to see the evidence backing that up please, bearing in mind the website that follows the Iraqi causualty figures as an NGO say's less then 100k2007 wrote:It's just another indication that Britain is becoming a police state. Well that would be an estimate by the people that by their own admission "don't do body counts". The Lancet report, plus two subsequent surveys are entirely consistent, it's at least 1.2 million.I'd like to see the evidence backing that up please, bearing in mind the website that follows the Iraqi causualty figures as an NGO say's less then 100k
The USA or UK have offered no concrete reasons for rejecting the studies findings, and they ignored the fact that they had sponsored identical studies (conducted by some of the same researchers) in other disaster areas, including Darfur and Kosovo.
I'm not exactly anti-war having worked myself for the US Dept. of Defence for over 25 years, but I'm certainly not in favour of war simply for economic reason and in the case of both Iraq, and indeed Afghanistan, to simply steal natural resources. Only a complete ass hole
would be. There's never been a so called "war against terrorism" there's a war by the USA to control ME oil resources which has of course met with resistance.

And that's an excuse for some idiot that calls themself a muslim (Believe me, she's not a muslim) to write 'poems' calling on people to kill innocent westerners is it?
You can have peace.
Or you can have freedom.
Don't ever count on having both at once.

Please show me the Lancet report that says 1.2 million have been killed for American economic interests by which you presumably be the Iraq war. I don't think you'll find the Lancet report did say such a figure did have died as a result of the Iraq war. I have assumed you meant that the Lncet report said 1.2 million, because leaving in the ''at least' puts you even further off the mark.2007 wrote:...1.2 million people in Iraq have been killed for what turns out to be simply for American economic interests...

Would those be the same sanctions which allowed the Iraqi Government to sell Oil to buy food and medical supplies in order to ease the suffering of their civilians?2007 wrote:That's not even counting the 1.5 million between 1991 and 2003 on account of the sanctions which the USA refused to release and Britain was complicit in.
It's not our fault that Saddam and his henchmen thought that what their people REALLY needed was new Presidential Palaces etc.... rather than things like medicine and food.
But yeah you're right it's never anyone else's fault is it, the US & UK are the only REAL bad guys in the world everyone else is just a understandable reaction to our foreign policy or something
Every oil for food transaction had to be approved by the USA, that role was designated to them by the UN Security Council. Any item which even a single member of the committee questioned could be held up. Eventually, US committee members alone held up 5,000 contracts. The value of contracts on hold in the Program was substantial in the billions of dollars.Would those be the same sanctions which allowed the Iraqi Government to sell Oil to buy food and medical supplies in order to ease the suffering of their civilians?

The list of items is excluded was astounding. It included pencils, boots, academic textbooks, refrigerators, electric light bulbs, and many others. It also includes items which go right to the heart of the humanitarian crisis -- chlorine, for example, which Iraq needed to purify water, various spare parts needed to repair or maintain water and sewage treatment systems, and medical supplies.
Of course these sanctions, according to the UN , resulted in around 1.5 million deaths, even Mad. Albright commented in 1996 that the deaths of 500,00 Iraqi children were "worth it", presumably you do too.
As for the palaces which Saddam is supposed to have built, if you can indicate the location of just one of these so called palaces built after the sanctions were imposed I would be amazed. I think you will find that was simply another aspect of invented propaganda in the likes of WMD, links with terrorism, human shredders, even mas graves of 3 to 400,000 which Blair later admitted amounted to around 8,000. This 8,000 is now about one months work from the occupation.
I agree that it is the Americans fault, they are now trying the same ruse in regards to Iran, it's totally shameful on Britain's part that we assisted with this genocide.
Please show me where I have written the Lancet report said 1.2 million. The Lancet report mentioned 600,000 but that was some time ago, even before the destruction of Falluja. A report following around a year later mentioned a million and the latest 1.2 million. Please show me the Lancet report that says 1.2 million have been killed for American economic interests by which you presumably be the Iraq war.
"calling on people to kill innocent Westerners" is one thing, actually killing innocent Iraqis/Muslims is another. If she's guilty of any crime then our political leaders and some members of the US/UK armed forces are guilty of far greater crimes. And that's an excuse for some idiot that calls themselves a Muslim (Believe me, she's not a Muslim) to write 'poems' calling on people to kill innocent westerners is it?
She's angry, and shit so am I and I'm not a Muslim either. What we need is another Nuremberg trial with Bush, Cheney, Rice, Blair, Straw and the rest of the crooks taking centre stage.
