You are wrong, you spelt plagiarism wrong many times that’s why I pointed it out. One or two mistakes are acceptable but you were showing consistency with that particular word. I could go and dig out a load of typos but I am not even going to bring myself to such a low.
Since I spent the last page doing precisely that,
Correction you spent the page trying to do that. After which you were shown to be wrong.
Implying that Iraq switching from the dollar would have had even a minor effect is laughable.
You are wrong, many respected commentators have pointed out the major knock-on effect a switch from the petrodollar would have. Your grasp of how the dollars global reserve status is directly linked to the petrodollar is laughable. And so is your arrogance for that matter.
He pushed OPEC to price oil higher, because he needed increased revenue to finance debt & reconstruction from the Iraq-Iraq war.
As has already been pointed out to you Saddam would raise and then lower prices, one moment he would force the price up by pumping less, the next he would force it down by pumping more, having the effect of forcing prices bellow what would have been desired by OPEC.

This had the effect of destabilising the oil markets. And as has been shown to you the U.S. considered that Iraq was using its oil as a weapon.

I have already explained to you that American forces in Arabia were under great pressure to leave. Again you have been shown to be wrong.

Your grasp of geopolitics isn’t even worth debating.
Debates are rarely about trying to convince your opponent to change his mind, but about convincing those watching
I agree, but your post has failed to convince many. I have had friends look at it and they agree that you are clearly wrong.

Please show me how I am wrong about what I said regarding Iraq and Afghanistan, or the unstable situation with the bases in Arabia. I will accept it if you can show me, but you haven’t, so don’t pretend that you have.

If you can show how I am wrong about Saddam having a destabilising effect on the oil markets I would be happy to accept that, but you haven’t.

Or if you can show me how Saddam’s move to the Euro was not a threat. Again I will be happy to accept it.

But please don’t just pretend you have debated all these issue with me, because you haven’t.

You are staring to show an obsession regarding that issue. Maybe you have nothing of worth to say perhaps that is why you keep repeating yourself?

Get over it, if we want to have a discussion about plagiarism we can start a new thread. And let start with this act of plagiarism, as I am sure we will all agree it is far more serious than mine.

Sigh, very well I'll go to round two, but it will have to wait for later.

Meanwhile, I'm curious as to your plagiarism argument:
yochanon wrote:I borrowed paragraphs from articles that I used to form my conclusions, that is not unusual, in fact it is the norm in internet posting. I could cite every paragraph I used text from, although I was not under the impression that was a requirement.

The information I used was just reaffirming opinions I already had, while adding facts that I was unaware of. Why bother rewriting what has already been written far more eloquently before?
But hold on a minute! Isn't that essentially what the UK government said?
CNN.com wrote:Large chunks of the 19-page report -- highlighted by U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell at the U.N. as a "fine paper ... which describes in exquisite detail Iraqi deception activities" -- contains large chunks lifted from other sources, according to several academics.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair's office, which posted the dossier on its Web site, said the report was "accurate" and that the government never claimed exclusive authorship.
So you both lifted large chunks of your argument, verbatim, from one or a small range of unacknowledged source(s), you both argued that you were unaware of standard academic procedure & didn't claim authorship anyway, and you both got hammered for this blatent bullshit. Except...you are criticising the UK government's plagiarism. I wonder how carefully your friends have read this thread, does that not strike them as somewhat hypocritical? Does it not occur to you, that your argument against the govt. dossier equally applies to what you are doing? You are both making cases for / against the war, correct?

Bit of a bind you have yourself in there: either it doesn't matter that you plagiarised, as you argue, and equally it doesn't matter that the government did, which you disagree with. Or it does matter that you plagiarised, contrary to your protests, and it does matter that the government plagiarised, as you agree.

Interesting thing is, I don't see anyone here arguing for the govt. plagiarising an MSc thesis for a vital policy doctrine being a good thing. I'm certainly not. So, I agree with you - they fcuked up, they got deservedly torn apart for it, and their credibility is questionable because of it...and so is yours.

It is a totally different matter, when someone lies to a whole nation, the whole world in fact that is far more serious than someone just posting a few paragraphs from a news story. lol.

I can’t understand why you are all so worked up about it surely you come across this sort of thing all the time. It seems some of you are obsessed with this issue.

Yoc does make some very good points though. Sarastro is just blatantly wrong on most accounts. A little childish to go and chronicle someone’s typos wouldn’t you say?

I wouldn't be so sure of that, take a look at quigly he's joined today, has only made two posts and they're both supporting yochanan posts. Maybe it's me being cynical but I wouldn't be suprised if they're actually the same person.
