Waiting times for Basic training

Just got a call from the ACIO saying that I have a date for Basic Training - 19th March 2008! Thats 7 months away ! Has anyone else had any problems with having to wait a long time before starting training? And what would you reccmmend to fill the time?

Hi mate I started basic training in november but the application process took about 6 months for me. Out of curiosity how long have you been in the process of joining up until now?

I first walked into the ACIO in May, so about 4 months so far. I was just hoping that I would be in training before the end of the year. Personally, I blame all those damn medical forms they make you fill in, which your doctor and opticians then decide to screw you around on .

I waited ages for the first time the doc took ages to get the forms back I waited on whole 11months.
However cos i failed by 10 seconds lasttime (not knowing the actuall pass time) i have had to reapply and am doing so again. good luck

After i passed selection i was given different dates for starting basic depending upon which regiment i wanted to apply for. I have had to wait for about four months since selection for a space in RAMC although if i had took my second choice i could have gone in practically straight away.

Just wondering: There is a Royal Signals TA centre about 9 miles away from where I live, would it be worthwhile getting in touch with them and seeing if I could join in their parade nights? Considering of course that it would only be for about 5/6 months and that when I join up full time it will be in the AAC. I believe RM recruits are allowed to join on RMR evenings whilst waiting for their training to start?

I did my interview last friday, have my selection on the 3rd and basic 1 month after that , bo-ya

The Royal Signals TA centre is in Aylesbury, I believe its A Troop of 60 Signal squadron, part 36 Regt. Theres also a Royal Artillery TA Regiment fairly close to me as well in Luton.

Any thoughts as to whether I should get in contact with them or would it just be a waste of mine and their time?

when i went to join raf reg it took not too long , maybe about 5 month from interest to signing on dotted line. however i was that stupid about 2 week before my blaze of glory i tore my hip flexors so it took me about 1n half years after acceptance date to get in there!!! point is i was a late starter (26 appled, 28 got in) due to injury. bide your time matey! even if the 'people' at the careers office are draggin it. dont get 'riled' or whatever because it will always come!! fill in the time with more quality training. who knows by making use of that time you may even get fit enough to open doors for para reg or bootneck!!! the world really is your oyster! good luck

Thats one of the ways I was looking at it, more time to do fitness training . I think I will just enjoy the next few months and take it easy.

I start 17th, you sure your date hasn't been changed?

Yeah im off to Winchester and it is actually the 17th, i got it wrong the first time lol. Where are you going for basic adnd what are you joining as? Not long to go now though .
