Does anybody in US actually know the truth about military?

Post by pentrich »

Now I know this has been posted all over the place before. But this specific example just made me laugh (in a kind of grin/laugh combination).

A female friend of mine is currently in USAF intelligence and was in US navy before that. I saw her recently and just in passing mentioned the occasion where a US War ship took out a Iran Air passenger jet mistaking it for a F16 off the coast of Iran. Anyone who watches plane related documentries will remember this was on BBC/iTV a few months back. Perhaps she missed the TV broadcast as she is posted worldwide, but she didnt have a clue what I was on about!

She was in the navy at the time.....

How do the US military manage to keep this kind of event away from the people indirectly but very much involved? I cant work it out.

My brother only recently found out that a US missile missed the ship he was on in the Gulf by 1km last year.
It's not just the Americans that don't get told everything.

Okay so some of the small info was wrong and maybe my US friend is a bit 'ignorant' (well she IS American :-) not to read up herself.....but surely in completing any military intelligence course in the US they refer you to mistakes made in the past? Or am I just making no sense still?

Think you answered that one yourself! This is the Americans we're talking about here - they don't make 'mistakes', so how could they learn from them?

True......So basically they are a brain-washed country at the end of the day. Never been there but sure sounds fun, kinda like visiting a wax museum but they are actually alive
